Me and my bf were talking about buying a watch for him for a while, at the moment he wears his apple watch and I wear my ss cartier tank. I am quite happy with my cartier as a “nice” watch that goes more or less with everything and lately I put my money in jewelry pieces most of the time. We were looking for some models from IWC, JLC and Rolex. We heard a lot about “the waiting list” for some models like submariner and daytona so, we weren’t expecting that we could get our hands on these models. However, when we were checking for some datejusts yesterday the SA in AD said that there is a chance that we can actually get a brand new submariner date or daytona (both in SS). We were not able to try them as they didn’t have them in store at the moment but he said we might be able to get one if we decide to order. We were both very surprised. My bf insists on me getting one too as they are very valuable watches but I am doubting as I am not very sure about these sporty watches on women, I see a lot of women here looking great with their daytona’s but I am not sure if I could pull it off. We didn’t ask for it yesterday but I actually like yachtmaster 37. What would you do in this case, would you skip this chance? I am afraid of doing an impulse buy and I will regret it later and eventually will decide to sell it.:confused1: I know that Rolex watches most of the time keep their value, and especially these models will most likely even appreciate their value but how far is this true in real life?

First, the AD offered one, not two. Are you sure you have the ability to buy two? Second, There's no reason on earth that the AD can't bring it in, have you try it, and then you decide. That is, on approval. It's absolutely nuts to commit to any watch without putting it on your wrist.

Additionally, the collectibility of a watch is not a guarantee you'll like it enough to want it. Currently made sports models are collectible within Rolex, but only within Rolex; other brands are higher price and higher collectibility.

When you go back to try it on, wear the clothing, bag, jewelry you would normally wear everyday and take a full length pic for yourself to see. It’s easy to focus just on your wrist when you are trying to decide on a watch. My DH took three days spread apart and three separate trips to ALange. Plus, long lunches that we spent debating the composition of a balanced, well curated, watch collection. The restaurant across the street from the boutique must do a great business lol. He now has two Alanges and a third is being delivered. Even if it appreciates, only buy what you love. Some years ago, I used to wear all SS, but mine was a Cartier Pasha C. I still adore that watch. Happy shopping!

If I were in your shoes, I would snap them up in a nano blink of an eye. These 2 watches, especially in stainless steel, are so in demand now that if you ever let them go, you’ll profit from it without a doubt.

I know there might be people who are against reselling, but I’m just saying, if it were me and this opportunity fell on my lap while talking to a random AD, and if I had to funds to buy it.

I was just at my AD a few weeks ago and he mentioned that these 2 watches specifically are called “reward watches.”

They only offer them to long-time clients (which I am not LOL) of the store etc. They certainly don’t want to offer a $9000 Rolex SS sub to someone who will resell it next week for $12-13k.

@880 @sfry thank you! It is indeed very important to think well about your purchases at this price level. If I would but Alange I would probably take 3 years to decide instead of 3 days  so I think you did a great job there with only 3 days! I am only interested in SS watches so their offer is perfect for me in terms of material, I like really like daytona but I am afraid it will be too big on me. So probably I will stick to my original idea to get a datejust or yachtmaster 37 if I decide to get a rolex and leave the offer for other models to my bf. :)

@jellyv Tbh I have no idea about it. He just mentioned it in general I think, but that is possible. Even if so, then I wouldn’t mind letting my bf to get it since he likes them more than me.

@missD I also found it very interesting, I almost thought he was joking or fooling us (still do actually:biggrin:) but I guess the only way to see it is, ordering it

Lol @nightbefore! I think my DH had been dreaming of ALange watches for about twenty years before being able to afford them. He basically had a very small watch collection (mainly a JLC power reserve, skeleton back, an IWC portugueser, and a Cartier tank francais for me, all for 10K from the biggest Tournea sample same years ago) plus a Rolex GMT coke (bought when prices were relatively low) and a Breguet heritage. He hadn’t bought anything since well before 2008, so now he’s kind of making up for it
if I could give any advice it’s don’t buy a watch bc it will go up in value; only buy what you love and get your money back through cost per wear. Hugs

TRUE! I would snap that up in a heartbeat. Been on the list for another Rolex . . . long wait. I did manage to pick up my son's Rolex after waiting for many months.
