I have a couple of questions on the MOP vintage necklace. I’ve adored these necklaces but I don’t have a store near me and I found a lovely necklace preloved online.

1. I was wondering if sweat affects the stone. With the salt and water, I am worried.
2. As it is preloved, can someone recommend someone to authenticate?

TY!

Hi! I personally don’t have MOP but when I was making my first purchase at the store I did take a look at it and talked to my SA about different options. MOP is delicate, and it’s been advised that people don’t wear it when working out, showering, etc. because it’ll affect the luster of the pearl and lose its beautiful sheen.

I love the look of MOP and would have loved to purchase it if it didn’t require a lot of maintenance.

It's really hard to gauge wears & tears on MOP as you'll hear people having different experiences with it. One main factor being one's pH and lifestyle can vary greatly, some people sweat more and/or their sweat is more acidic than others, some people use more beauty products around their neck & chest (like myself) so that'll affect wears and tears on MOP too. With VCA's classic pieces like VA MOP pendant you're better off purchasing it brand new from the boutique because with pre-loved market you're probably only saving a few hundreds at most and then you have to worry about its authenticity.

MOP is a fragile and soft stone. It has hardness 2-3 on the Mohs Scale (out of 10). I would not wear it daily and would definitely avoid contact with water while wearing it. I got Malachite necklace knowing very well that it is a fragile stone but I loved the look of it and was ok with its fragility. If you love MOP, get it but be careful with it. Otherwise, consider Onyx.
