First piece - pendant or bracelet?

I’m looking to purchase my first van cleef piece and am considering both the onyx vintage Alhambra pendant and the onyx 5 motif bracelet.

I currently regularly wear a Tiffany dbty necklace, a stainless steel Cartier watch and tennis bracelet on my left wrist, and yellow gold love bracelet and JUC on my right wrist.

Do you think the necklace or bracelet would be better in my collection?

Do you tend to prefer certain categories of jewelry over others?

I'm not much of a necklace girl. I too have a Tiffany DBTY necklace and before that I basically wore nothing. After I got the DBTY, it became my forever piece and I never take it off unless I get a facial or massage. I'm very happy with it being my only staple piece since I'm not a necklace layering person. I occasionally will layer one more necklace if there is a specific look I am going for.

The pro's of a necklace is that, compared to a bracelet, it's less likely to hit other things since most of us use our hands a lot for various tasks. I bang my love bracelet and pathere watch around all the time. Good thing I wear long sleeve, otherwise they would be very beat up.

The pro's of a bracelet is that you can see it and admire it from your perspective . Unlike a necklace that you can only see when looking into a mirror.

Personally I would go for a bracelet over a necklace. I'm more of a ring/bracelet girl though, so I'm biased haha.

Either way, buy what makes your heart sing! Please let us know what you end up deciding on.

Bracelet is a better value. And I think a bit more wow. If cost isn’t a concern, I’d go for that, since the price difference isn’t 5 times as much. Also, you can wear the bracelet around your neck with an extender chain. And it’s easier to take photos of a bracelet on your wrist than a pendant on your neck.

I sometimes wear my alhambra pendants, but I honestly prefer the 10-motif necklace over the pendant. That’s another price jump, though.

If you want to layer necklaces, though, then I think the pendant is useful. But in practice, the chains get tangled if you layer necklaces for extended periods of time, so I don’t do that very often.

I got one and still wanted (and later added) the other. These were my first two VCA pieces and got me hooked!

I would say to start with the bracelet. You'll enjoy seeing it on your wrist, and they look great! Just keep in mind how you stack it with other pieces--you may want to have them resize it a bit (free when you first buy) so that it fits nicely both in general and with your Cartier pieces.
