Hi ladies!

I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, and am finally ready to purchase my first luxury bag. Wooo! :)

I want something small (I dont care to carry much), chic, timeless, and elegant.

I have been toying with the three shown below. Since I'm a noob, I thought I'd ask you all! Please give me your opinions regarding quality (if you've used any of these brands, overall impression etc!)

Good options! I just got the YSL WOC but with black hardware and I adore it! Want to go back for the same one in white/silver hardware. But the Chanel boy is always on my list. My first lux bag was a black caviar classic flap and that’s still my fav.

Based on appearance alone the Dionysus, based on durability definitely the Gucci since it has the chain attached atop the bag so there’s no issue of the chain rubbing against the leather over time like is the case for both the YSL and the Chanel.

I’d say no to the dioyansus because I think the suade could get dirty easily (and you’d have to avoid rain!) and I think for your first luxury bag you will want it to look like new for a long time!

Did you purchase your first bag yet?

If not, my preference in order is

- chanel: though trendy, their bags hold their value, some become classics and aftercare service is very good. Your bag can always have a spa day when it needs it. And if you can afford it, then buy now because of price increases.

- Gucci: classic and tasteful. Though I agree with the other person who noted suede could be problematic.

- Saint Laurent: not sure about this specific bag but SL bags from the Hedi Slimane Era have quality issues.

I agree about the Saint Laurent having issues. YSL has great warranty policy, but I was disappointed with the quality for my WOC. I bought it in late November. I attended my friend’s wedding in February. That night of the wedding, I notice that one of the corners at the bottom where the stitches meet was lifting. Went to YSL, they replaced it right away with a new one. But I haven’t used it again. Still brand new. Then I got my Pochette Métis which I love so much. Then the Gucci Soho Disco which is also fun to carry. I finally bit the bullet 3 weeks ago and got my first Chanel in black. Now I am selling the YSL WOC since it’s only been sitting in my closet. It looks beautiful but I am scared the same issue might happen again.

I would vote for Gucci (disco or marmont or any of the smaller bags in LEATHER not suede) or LV felicie which comes with 2 detachable pouches (shown above).
There is potential quality issues with ysl but you will find the same with chanel as well.
Personally I wouldn’t get the chanel woc unless you’re ABSOLUTELY in love with it, Some people settle for the woc thinking that they couldn’t afford the more expensive chanel mini/classics, only to buy them later down the track anyway and have to sell the WOC. Personally I like chanel but never own the woc just because there’s so many other more price effective small crossbody bags out there.

I did end up purchasing my first bag - and it was actually none of the ones I linked above.
I went to the YSL store and checked out tons of their bags including the one linked above. But I think YSL was losing its charm for me because EVERYONE seems to be carrying one. I went to the beach and someone was carrying a YSL WOC. I kid you not - I went on a hike, and someone was carrying the YSL Matelasse.
I went to the Chanel store and loved their classic flaps and boy, but was definitely was out of my price range for now. So that will have to wait.
I went to the Gucci stores and checked out the Dionysus thoroughly - loved the emblem but the gunmetal chain wasnt really my style. I'm more of a gold hardware girl. ALSO - as I was playing with the ag, I noticed the Dionysus chain sometimes got stuck in the loops momentarily. Still loved the bag though.. But I wasnt certain. And then the sales associate showed me the Gucci padlock. I loved it right away! It had the leather I wanted, the GG canvas accent which I really like, gold hardware and was just the cutest box shape.

I took the plunge and got the Gucci padlock! My first luxury bag purchase!

If you think you will tire of your choice and resell, just remember that your best resale value is with anything LV and monogram. So if you are loving any LV piece that is what I would get.
