Hi! I am looking to buy my first Hermes quota bag. Today, I saw a bag at a reputable re-seller for a Vintage Black Box Leather Kelly in Black w/ Gold Hardware. All-In w/ tax it would be 12K. Is this a good price? The bag is in v good condition and minimal signs of wear. It comes with: Clochette, Keys, Lock, Dust bag, Detachable Strap.

Not a good price really, in my opinion. How old? What size?

1993 and Size 28.
Others may disagree, but I personally would not recommend paying that much for this bag. Granted, 12K— I’m presuming this is in USD— is not the worst I’ve heard of by any means, but it could be much better. I just did a search and saw a handful of bags with the same specs for cheaper* (~10k or less in many cases). 12K for a 30 year old bag with these specs just does not sit right with me.

*I looked on Ebay specifically. If you go for this route, make sure to use PayPal and Amex (or at least just PayPal). If you aren’t attached to the idea of a size 28, you could opt for a 32 and maybe get an even better deal!

Thanks so much! I'm just not seeing anything w/ all the items listed for a similar price in similar websites.

Gladly!:flowers:

You may not see one you like currently, but cheaper bags with these specs absolutely do come up on the resale market at least once a month. As we speak, I am seeing a much cheaper bag with your desired specs from an Ebay seller; the bag is in great condition and comes as an almost full set: dust bag, lock, clochette + tiret, and keys. Granted, it is completely understandable if you aren’t keen on purchasing a bag from Ebay*— that is your prerogative—, but I am just letting you know that there are cheaper bags on the market than the 12k bag you’re seeing. Even if you felt leery and wanted to pay to have the bag authenticated (which you should do anyway, as someone new to the brand), you would still come in well under 12k.

As for the 12k bag: again, this is not the most egregiously priced Black Box Calf Kelly 28 I’ve heard of, but it is pricier than necessary (though I suppose the same could be said of all Hermès items ever sold, store-fresh or secondhand ). As with any sought-after item, it is worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay.

*Almost every vintage Hermès item I’ve ever owned is from Ebay. They offer buyer protections. Again, if you use PayPal and Amex, you should have no issues.

I agree it’s high. I bought mine, 28BBK retourne, phw, for 7K USD, full set, but this was during Covid SIP. I believe that the current retail price last year was around 17K, which to me, is super pricy. If you can wait and shop around, I would recommend that.

You’ve already gotten wonderful priceless advice but just to add my limited experience, I was able to buy a 1992 k28 retourne in rouge vif with strap, clochette/keys/lock for just under $7k pretax on eBay. I was nervous about it too since that was my first Kelly. But I had been lurking on TPF for 6 months and been reading through the forum about vintage box bags to be able to do a “first pass check”, used PayPal and of course authenticated with Bababebi.
