Hi everyone,

This is my first post here

I started my Hermes journey a few years ago, but I didn’t “play the game” meaning I bought in any store without a specific SA

In December, I started to buy with only one SA in my hometown but things didn’t work out. Then I started buying in another city that I go at least 3 times per year, and I finally found a really nice SA. I have started buying with this SA in April. I have spent a total of 20,900 euros with this SA including a picotin and a SO watch. So, I think I have enough pre spend with this SA to ask for my first QB. I would like to gift it to myself as a birthday gift (in November).

I am looking for a Kelly 25, Birkin 25, or Kelly Pochete in Ostrich leather. For a Kelly 25 or a Birkin 25, I was thinking of a grey color, like graphite, or a dark blue color. For the Kelly Pochete could be either gray, dark blue, or any other fun color like rose Sakura

Is it too hard to get? I heard exotics are easier to get and I thought about saying it now so there is plenty of time left until November for the store to receive any of these bags. But I am not 100% sure since I am new.

Also, do you think my color choice is good? What is your favorite color for ostrich leather?

I read online that ostrich leather can get damaged from the oil in the hands. Did this happen to anyone? Is it better to get a darker color for this reason?

Is it ok to ask for it through WhatsApp? Or is it better to ask for it in person?

Thank you very much in advance for your help and sorry for any writing mistake (english is my third language and I don’t practice as much)

I don’t know the answer to the ostrich questions but I would not discuss this with your SA via what’s app. I assume you are not in the US so I think my advice is only semi helpful - but here’s what I found - if what you will love is an ostrich bag then discuss with your SA and wait for an ostrich bag. It may take longer (or not depending on your store’s stock). But if that’s what you love go for it. I waited until my dream bag came - all the advice to take a bag if it’s close is silly imo. Good luck!

Would also not use WhatsApp! Ostrich seems not too easy to come by, speaking about europe now - as far as i know. I have been waiting for a K 25/28/32 in a specific Ostrich combination for a very long time (I.e. years) and finally did get a heritage leather instead as both my boutique and I gave up hope for this combo… this was the only wish I had that did not come true.

Don't know about your boutique's "ostrich bags supply" now, but back in the day, it was easier for me to get an ostrich bag (if I wanted to). That is a question you need to ask your SA. Also, if I were to ask about a QB, I'd ask about it in person. Just my thoughts.

I have two ostrich bags- one K25 sellier (SO from Paris) and an ostrich KP( also from Paris). It’s a very durable leather and although it can darken with time, it’s not a deal breaker for me. You can use a twilly on the handles for protection.

Since your store and SA are not in your hometown and you can’t visit as often, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with communicating your wishlist with your SA via WhatsApp or text. I’m in a similar situation and did just that and it worked out for me.

H ostrich is wonderful. I have a vintage bag in saffron (golden yellow). I've also heard the B/K ostrich are easier to get b/c the price point is higher from the start and people prefer leathers they are familiar with. I prefer ostrich in dark colors like brown, black, deep purples, and gold. It does darken, and can still get color transfer and dirt, so the light colors like pink, white, gris, etc. end up looking grubby if they aren't well-cared for. I hope you get one!!

Hi Everybody,
Thinking about my first ostrich bag and I will go for a Kelly 25. Does anyone knows the neutral colors for this leather this year ? Wanted to go for a light one but I am afraid of the fact it gets darker with the time.
Thanks a lot

Not sure what’s currently being produced but perhaps a convo with your SA might be helpful? Could also be dependent on what colors and sizes your stores orders.

I think you'll enjoy ostrich. It's a lighter leather and there's a "contrast" in the color because of the quill marks. I have a few ostrich pieces including a Constance and B25. I think these were definitely worth waiting for but be warned that they are more expensive than regular leathers such as Togo, Epsom etc. However, if it is something you intend on keeping for a lifetime (I do with mine), then absolutely wait. Talk to your SA directly. Express your interest and ask for these to be placed on a wishlist. You may have better luck with giving your SA a general color than specific one i.e. Gray instead of Gris Asphalte. You can always say you prefer a darker shade. The reason I suggest this is because colors can appear different on ostrich and what you see in a picture may not look the same in person. Your SA can look out for you and make an offer when ready. If you don't like that particular one, you do not have to get it! Also highly suggest getting into a good relationship with your SA. Talk about your likes, dislikes and what you're unsure about. If your SA is good, he/she will look out for you based on your preferences and make suggestions which you may not even have thought about. Good luck!
