First Chanel purchase

Hi Ladies,

This is going to be my first purchase and i think i am settled with the Black Caviar, Medium CF, however i am so torn between Medium and the Large. Can you share your thoughts on the sizing? i did watch several videos and i think the medium should work but would love to hear your thoughts. Here is typically what i carry

PS: Noticed that jumbo on the preloved market is priced lower than the new medium too...If i did purchase a preloved will i be able to have it repaired if needed?

This might not be terribly helpful, but I just wanted to say I think it's ideal to see both bags in person if you can. When I bought my black caviar CF, I set out thinking I wanted the medium, but I ultimately went with the jumbo after comparing the two in the store. I liked having the extra room in the bag and I preferred the look of the bigger bag on my frame. I felt like it looked bigger in pictures online than it did in person.

Of the two sizes, the medium seems to be viewed as the more timeless size and is more popular right now. You can't go wrong with either one!

I agree with the above poster. Go to the store and try it out. I thought about buying the medium too after watching YT videos but when I tried out both bags, the jumbo looked great on my frame. Both bags fit my all essentials well. The Jumbo was more roomier whereas it was a very tight fit inside the medium. I recently wore the jumbo with my bulky coat and it was very easy to wear it.

Oh and you can also take all these essentials with you and put them inside the bag. My SA allowed me to do it and she took me to the Ready to wear floor as she had to do her shift there so I had a lot of time and space to wear the bag and walk around. Take your time!

So the medium large is the best due to sizing and going from day to night. However your items there typically will be tight for the m/l. Depending on your collection, you may have to size down or go for the jumbo (it is big but looks cute still). I returned mine for the medium large and just Carry less, and switch to a bigger bag if I need more space (that’s why we have so many bags!)

I also hear a lot of people saying that the chain digs in their shoulder. When do you want to wear this bag? I think that a jumbo with a long wool coat will give of another vibe than a jumbo worn with a summer dress. It's not just what fit's in the bag but also what you want to wear with it.

You also asked about repairs if you buy pre-loved. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they have a couple of years of warranty. How a boutique handles a repair also varies. But then again, there are enough bag spa's out there to help you out if something is horribly amiss.

We are the same! Just purchased my first Chanel for Christmas and can’t decide if I made the right decision either! I got the medium black caviar with silver hardware. I picked this because I wanted a going out purse rather than an every day.

I agree with viviaciousbev that most of your items probably won't fit or will be a little tight. When I carry my ML, I try to put in the least amount of items because I don't want to stretch it out and I certainly don't want it to be too heavy. I prefer the ML over the Jumbo due to size and potentially how heavy it can be. Plus, you have the option of wearing the ML with casual clothes (how I wear mine all the time) and/or with dressy clothes.
Prior to me getting my ML, I also had the tough decision of which size would be best for me. I think at that time the Jumbo was more favorable, but go with your gut and choose what is best for you and what suits your lifestyle. It's a tough decision and pleas share once you decide. GL deciding!

I pretty much carry exactly the same items as you (apart from my constant use of a card holder rather than a wallet).

I also have both bags and prefer the Jumbo as it’s less squished. I bought the medium first thinking it would hold everything I needed, but found it too much of a faff. Purchased the jumbo and am over the moon with how easy it is to use! Also fits better on my frame (5ft2 and curvy).

I agree with the others, best to try on the different sizes in-person if you can.

Just my $.02 regarding my own experience: I have the Black caviar flap in both sizes—medium and Jumbo.

I carry roughly the same amount of stuff as you do, maybe a little more.

I find that I get more ‘real estate’ for the Jumbo especially for daily wear. I like having that extra bit of space and I do not feel it is ‘oversized’, it’s actually just a regular size bag in reference to the teeny-tiny bag trend.


The Medium is a very tight fit for me and honestly, I will only use it for ‘special occasions’ like weddings/formal events (That was the only reason i finally caved in and bought a Medium size this month)
I do not use the Medium for daily wear.

I was in the same dilemma until recently and got the jumbo, black caviar with Gold hardware; I have been using it daily and just can’t put it down! I don’t know why everyone keeps saying its a heavy and huge bag, and I’m on the petite size. I still do plan on getting the medium size just in another color. You definitely need to try them on in person. I always saw people wearing the medium and was like wow that’s so cute I want it. Then I went into Chanel and tried it on. It’s pretty much the same size as all my small bags. I didn’t like how it looked on me. I’m short and curvy and it’s cute but on me it’s more of an evening bag. I tried on the jumbo and loved it. I would get the medium but not for everyday but for special occasions like weddings or going out.

It doesnt get too cold where we live, dont really have any big/thick coats/jackets. This would be my everyday bag so I am thinking that that the medium will be a tight fit. I am very casual jeans and a pretty/dressy top kinda girl and workplace is casual. I did see some nice preloved Jumbo's so am thinking i will go that route first if i decide on the jumbo and if i really do want the medium add it to my collection at the right time. I had made some mistakes earlier which were costly and i do want to avoid it this time around (bought a speedy b 30 thinking it was the perfect size then turned out that everything was just moving around and i hated the organizer in it so ended up selling it and buying a 25 b instead)

Thanks ladies, it seems that the consensus is to go with the Jumbo for everyday usage which is how i would be using it. I definitely dont have very many formal events that i go to and even if i did have other bags that i could use. I plan on going to the store this week and hopefully jumbo is the one for me. I truly appreciate all of your feedback and thank you again!

Good luck! I went in to get the 19 bag and came out with the jumbo so you never know!
