A black mini can be difficult to find, a mini in any color is difficult to find. The mini is wider but the WOC holds almost as much IMO, I own both and love both! My first Chanel was a WOC and no regrets here. Good luck!Within your budget, a Chanel Rectangular Mini would be my first choice for you. It fits nearly as much as its much pricier cousin the Chanel Classic Flap. Best of all, it's a crossbody bag with a strap long enough to fit over a coat. I have this bag in Black Lambskin and also have the less expensive WOC (Wallet-on-a-Chain) in Black Caviar.
The Rectangular Mini fits everything I need to carry for day or evening without being "stuffed" and has the look of a Classic Flap without the price and without the nuisance of it slipping off my shoulder. The WOC fits much less, but can be expanded with the addition of a flat base available on Etsy. The reason I have both is that the WOC can be worn underneath a coat and without that flat base is very sleek. Other advantages of the WOC are that it can slip into a suitcase for traveling; slipped into a tote and used as a wallet; can be a short shoulder bag with the strap doubled under the flap; and with the strap slipped inside it becomes a clutch.
For your first or perhaps only Chanel bag, my recommendation would be to opt for Black. Whether you choose Lambskin or Caviar is entirely up to you. In my experience, Chanel's seasonal bags don't hold their value, while Mini Rectangulars and WOC's have much better resale value.
Thank you. This is really helpful. Hopefully the mini flap is not going to be difficult to find so I can try it on.Within your budget, a Chanel Rectangular Mini would be my first choice for you.
