FIRST Cartier Watch - Which one?

I like both! There are some differences between quartz vs automatic watch movements though. With quartz you never have to wind the watch and it runs for a long time until the battery needs replacing. An automatic watch can stop running and you’ll need to wind it and reset the time if it’s not worn all the time or kept in a watch winder. I have both kinds and enjoy both. However, during the pandemic lockdown most of my quartz watches ran out of battery. The stores were not open so whenever I wanted to wear a watch I could only wear one of my automatic ones. :amazed:

You may also want to think about which type of straps you want. When I travel to warm destinations (beaches, etc.), I don’t usually wear my watches with leather straps because of sweats, swimming, etc. If you live in a very humid area, you may want to consider metal straps—not absolutely necessary, just a consideration.

Can’t wait to see which one you decide on.

I read somewhere on TPF that changing a quartz battery at Cartier costs about £500 so there's that...

I’d think that price would include a battery change and a thorough inspection/tuning? Mine usually costs less than Cdn$100. DH has taken upon himself to change my watches’ battery just last month. He’s a watch connoisseur and quite handy. He ordered proper tools and batteries from Amazon and voila! Less than $10 for 3 batteries. Only works if the back plate has tiny screws though. Don’t recommend this for anyone—leave it to the professionals.

Have you decided yet, any comparison photos?
I’d go for Santos automatic (in fact I’m getting it after the holidays lol). In your case the gold option might be a pain to maintain- gold is soft will show dents and scratches quite bad. Also the movement is not in-house, not a big problem though it’s ETA used by Oris watches, for example.
Would you mind me asking what’s your wrist size? I’m about 15.5cm and a tiny bit worried Santos automatic medium might be too big…

Depends whether the watch will be an everyday wear or special occasions watch? I personally like chain strap as it is easier to maintain. I live in a humid country so chain over leather strap for me anytime. I recently tried a few Cartier watches and I have included the medium Santos to waiting list. Didn't realise it is in such demand! Perhaps trying it in person will make its easier for you to choose. I initially wanted the Tank but after trying I fell in love with Santos. Let us know which one you bought!

On my 15-15.5 wrist. I can assure you: it’s not heavy and I don’t ‘feel’ it when wearing, really comfortable hugs my wrist, and it’s a beauty with really good specs (plus you can remove/add links at home yourself!). Whichever Santos you choose it’s a beautiful watch with a history.

I found one, picking up on Monday.
