So I have had vachetta anxiety since 2002 and my first bag. I kept purchasing monogram, but never really used my bags like I do with leather or damier ebene. I even purchased Apple Guard over a year ago, but just couldn't get over the fear of the chemicals and the possible long term impact on the patina process.

Finally decided to bite the bullet and try to just enjoy my monogram bags. Figured I could be dead tomorrow so what am I saving them for really??? I took my pink v speedy out yesterday to work. I took my barely used 7 year old Delightful MM out to the hair salon this morning, to the nursery to pick summer flowers and finally the cigar bar. Nearly gasped (old habits die a little harder than I thought) when the bar manager picked her up off the chair next to me and put her down on the bar between two ashtrays. My bartender actually scolded her boss about grabbing Louie. I did check out the trim later and had 2 dirtyish corners. Could be dirt from the nursery, bumping my husband's car or an ashtray at the bar or some denim color transfer. So I picked up the water wipes (99% water) recommended by Luxmommy on youtube on the way home. Got home and did a little white pencil eraser on the soiled areas and a light wipe with a wipe. It's nearly gone...you really need to look for it. Also got quite a bit of blue off the canvas.

So I sit here this evening, not bummed about my bag at all but feeling a lot freer about using my monogram bags. Now don't get me wrong, I not going to take it in the creek tomorrow when I go fly fishing with my husband, but my monogram bags are finally going to get to go out and play a lot more than in the past.

I always read the patina threads, the debate on to treat or not, baby wipes, the patina champ and watermarks. I am likely not going to ever use my can of Apple Guard or intentionally wipe down my leather with anything unless I get it dirty, but today's dirty corners made me a lot less worried about what may happen going forward. I figure I would rather deal with something that happens, if and when it happens, than just leave thousands of dollars in a dark closet sleeping in dust bags.

Great! I hope you’ll continue to be able to relax and really enjoy your bags. These forums often feed anxiety unfortunately and it’s such a shame. I wish there were more threads about the beauty of well used, well lived in and loved bags instead of maintaining “perfection” which seems pointless and stressful (to me anyway ;)).

Yes, vachetta anxiety is pointless. What’s the point of having a bag if you can’t use it? It’s just a bag, not a Picasso. I use a combo of pre-tanning, patina champ, and Cadillac conditioner and use my bags without worry. I’ve gotten stuff like coffee and print ink from some food bag on them and it all wipes off now with no stain. I’ve even given a preloved bag a bath with no problems. Vachetta is not as delicate as people seem to think. And if it gets ruined, you can repair it or use it as an excuse to go shopping at lv!

I agree!! There's a customer that comes into my workplace and she carries an Alma PM and it has water stains and a dark patina but everytime I see her, she's using it without a care in the world and it looks beautiful!

I totally agree with this. This is one of my favorite threads in the clubhouse:

This. I found myself checking my new bag for flaws and counting the weeks in the calendar to find out when it was made. I had to stop myself because I’ was not like this before coming back to TPF!
