Hi all!

I'm really curious about a lot of Asian brands lately. I am Chinese, but don't read Chinese, so I never really bothered looking to any of the products when I visited China. But now I'm seeing a lot more Asian brands generally online and getting a real yearning to try some. Can you recommend some brands or products to me? I have tried Majolica Majora eyeshadows and think they're amazing. And I've also read excellent reviews for DHC cleansing oil on Makeupalley. What kind of other wonderful products am I missing out on?

Hi EllaB - Welcome to the Beauty Bar! You are in luck - there's actually a thread or two about this exact topic floating around here. I am not Asian (Latina here, lol) but have a real interest in Asian beauty products, esp. skin care. It particularly drives me insane that so many of my favorite Chanel items are Asia exclusives.

My latest fixations:

- Korean BB Creams - I want to know more about these, and if they would work for my skin tone. I have read in some blogs that these are best for people with pretty light skin, but that they do a great job evening out one's skin tone and taking care of blemishes while providing some coverage.

- Thanks to the lovely PFer who sent me some Asia-exclusive oil-blotting papers, I am now even more in love with oil-blotting papers than ever! (And of course the ones I like best I can't get here very easily).

- My biggest lemming right now is for some Chanel Mat Lumiere Extreme powder foundation (can't get it in the Americas, booo). After consulting with lots of people both on here and on MUA, I think I know what shade I would need.

So that's what I am hearing lots of great stuff about.

And here's the threads I mentioned at the beginning of the novel that I just wrote, lol:

HTH! ;)

I prefer Asian brand skin care also.

You can try SaSa (Hong Kong based ), they have an english site http://www.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/sasa/home.jsp with prices in USD. They are sort of like a Sephora with many asian brands and their prices are pretty good. They normally have free shipping with $75 USD purchase and you should receive your order in less then 2 weeks.

The only down side is its hard to tell what the ingrediants are should you have any allergens.

korean BB creams are the best!
i'm Chinese too, korean BB creams work wonders!!
the brand i recommend is Missha www.missha.com
another brand is Fancl, which has no preservatives in them at all.

Sasa is a good store, which you can find a lot, but be sure that you get the brands which are well known.

douzz, I have been dying to try some BB cream - but do you think that they only work well if you have really light skin? My skin is medium tan (NC35/40), and I have lots of hyperpigmentation issues, so I was thinking that BB cream might be a nice option. TIA for any info!

Also, if anyone uses Chanel Mat Lumiere Extreme (Asia exclusive), and can give me some insight as to the shades and how they might compare to MAC, I would be very grateful.

I'm Chinese too! And just like you...I don't read...LOL.
My favorite Asian skincare brands are Skinfood, Laneige (Amore Pacific), and My Beauty Diary.

As the wonderful Lo has already mentioned, BB creams are probably the pinnacle of Asian makeup/skincare. I use Laneige's BB cream. It's great for individuals who want a really easy "one product does everything" of thing. The only drawback is that it doesn't offer much coverage, so it's not for somebody who's skin needs more coverage. BUT it's a very good product for individuals who have great skin already, and just want SPF and to even out your skintone. BB creams range from $16 - $40 depending on the brand. Here is mine if you are more curious, I use #1 which gives you a "glow". It also comes in #1 which is a "no makeup" look: http://www.yesstyle.com/en/laneige-...ightening-50ml-1-7oz/info.html/pid.1022583656

I also have to recommend Laneige's Sleeping Pack. I haven't come across an American cosmetic company that has made something similar to it. It's this cream you put on right before you go to sleep and it REALLY hydrates your skin. It's so easy to use, just put it on and wash it off in the morning. It helps your skin on those dry winter nights. It's one of their most popular products: http://www.yesstyle.com/en/laneige-...-all-skin-types-80ml/info.html/pid.1021548888

My HG cleanser is from Skinfood, which is also a Korean brand. I LOVE their tea tree oil products and it really does clear up and keeps my skin clear. It's MUCH better than The Body Shop's tea tree oil cleanser. It's creamier in texture, and less stinky. Another product which I absolutely adore is their Lettuce and Cucumber toner. It's a very hydrating toner, and it really allows your moisturizer to fully soak in. When I don't use it, I feel a significant difference in the absorption level. Skinfood is super affordable because it averages $15-$20. Official site here: http://eng.theskinfood.com/ Yestyle has a good selection, but it's not exhaustive: http://www.yesstyle.com/en/skinfood-beauty/list.html/bcc.11213_bpt.299_bid.310850

My Beauty Diary was recommended to me by my cousin who is a cosmetic fanatic. She says it's the best face mask company, and each pack yields TONS of serum. http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?brand=My Beauty Diary&ref_=bl_sr_beauty&node=11055981

Lastly, my absolute favorite Asian shampoo is Asience by Kao. It smells so good, and it makes my hair super soft. Usually Asian brand shampoos make my hair super greasy, but not this one! http://web.kao.com/asience/

Wow I wrote a lot!! I think that's enough recommendations...at least for now lol! I've actually recently been on an Asian skincare obsession! I've just bought Laneige's Ultra Hydro Cream_EX and toner (http://www.laneige.com/product/type.jsp?brandCd=3189&lineCd=3189&cdTp=L) and I'm excited to use it. So far the samples the SA gave me have been wonderful on my skin!

Fancl. It's a great brand which prides itself on using zero or minimal preservatives in their products. Their products have a really short shelf life thou. But the results are pretty good.

I love their cleanser and their cleansing oil. These two are the star products. Do check these out. Seriously.

2nd the Laneige recommendation. It's korean. Their water sleeping pack and strawberry yogurt mask is very good.

We are quite lucky in Singapore as more and more Japanese and Korean brands are being brought in. It's great to try out stuff!

I really like Kanebo Freshel White C products, I first tried them in Japan and now I'm a fan! Also Kanebo Sala hair products.
I highly recommend Kose Softymo White Cleaning Oil too, it smells like orange and it is the best I've tried.
