saw a few new words like untreated, not enhanced... so i am thinking if there's any store online one source for their fancy yellow or pink diamonds. how do u know its untreated/ "original" colour? thank you

I don't have much time at the moment. I'm late for work. Pricescope has invaluable information on buying FCDs (fancy colored diamonds). Link is below. Natural means it is not treated, heated or irradiated. I would always get a full GIA cert, not the short one which gives color but not clarity. many FCDs have poor clarity. On line, you can look at Blue Nile and Diamonds by Lauren to start getting ideas.

There is on tPF called Show me Your Colored Diamonds and another called Show Me Your Yellow Diamonds which may help.

In fancy colors color is the most important factor, so yes clarity often suffers and many looks badly included, however, you can also find stones with decent clarity. Prices vary greatly based on the color and the intensity and evenness of color; yellows would of course cost significantly less than pinks for example. Full certificates from a major lab are a must. Where you buy depends greatly on your location and preference; in my opinion it is highly advisable to see fancy colors in real life, you can find them at jewelry stores and auctions but there are wonderful online sources as well, the sources I use though generally do not sell to the public, you should probably search yourself and then if you find examples post them here to get opinions.

I would try Leibish and Co. It's has an online store that has a very big inventory on fancy color diamonds especially yellow but do have some on pink and blue (though very expensive). Majority comes with GIA certificate and a few with IGI (You can view them online if you wish as well). Check out their site, it's reputable and they are Israeli based and they shipped by FedEx expressed (free) if you are ordering from let say US and I do believe they accept paypal, credit cards and bank wire, and offer full refund if you don't like it.

That's it Leibish - I couldn't remember the name. I think other members have been happy with them.

I personally wouldn't go with IGI as their grading is softer than GIA. When I was purchasing a pink diamond last year, I had to significantly increase my budget. I couldn't believe the prices.

Leibish is quite good, and you can also get some from Diamonds By Lauren, as well, esp pinks and yellows. If it's enhanced, the cert should note it.

IGI is actually very strict on clarity especially just like GIA, if any I would be concerned about HRD when it comes to clarity as I have found several times that they were very lenient about clarity and often their charts are very far from the truth; meaning that some inclusions are either entirely missing from their charts or are drawn much smaller than they actually are. When a stone is VS1 or better they are ok but I would not take a stone that is SI and has an HRD cert as they are often I grade. IGI is good, GIA may be the best, however, there have been issues with GIA in the past, IGI is the only lab never been involved in a scandal to my knowledge.

I believe a few years back they have quite a few IGI certificates but I just check their site now and I think about 99% of their fancy yellow diamonds have GIA now. They list all their diamonds with what they come with so you'll know. I purchased one from them a few years back and they were very prompt and when I had questions they replied immediately (I ordered during one of their Israeli holidays and of course I didn't know that since they ship out quickly during their regular hours and when I emailed them about this they replied very fast so it was all good).

Diamonds by Lauren is also good but don't have as much selection as Leibish and Co. especially if you want a variety to choose from I'd go for Leibish. DBL also has a forum in which you can post questions and the owner replied quite promptly and they are from New York I believe.

:D

I've purchased several pink diamonds from Leibish- they are great. They have a huge inventory and wonderful customer service. I've also purchased yellow and pink diamonds from Diamonds by Lauren- also very happy with them. I only buy with a GIA report.
