Hi ladies,

I came accross a couple of videos on Youtube where different people were claiming they got fake designer goods from Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman (one of them Louboutin shoes and the other one was a LV bag I think, don't remember exactly).

They claimed that people return fake items and the staff doesn't realise and just re-sells them. Now, is this really possible? I mean, do people really return fake items instead of the real thing, and also, do the NM or BG staff not realise when they are handling a fake item?

Or really, is it just a made up excuse by the people who made those Youtube videos to justify themselves when one of their viewers claims that the shoes they were showing in the previous video are fake Louboutins?

I'm just not sure whether this is something I should be worried about, I always used to think that it was "safe" to buy at that kind of dpt store! Any thoughts/experiences?

I know this happens sometimes with nordstrom rack, century 21 and off saks - I've seen fake herve dresses, fake burberry coats, fake burberry bags and fake louboutins - of course this was spread out over years and yearsof shopping at different stores - but it seems that ppl do buy them then return the fakes and the SA's at the lower off stores are not as familiar with telling a fake from a real one because they are not as exposed to the brands since they only get high end merchandise randomly over time so they just accept it back.

It's so sad

It is very sad indeed...

So either you become a fake-spotting expert, or else you can't really buy with confidence anywhere at this point. I can't believe they don't have better security systems, they should indeed attach security tags, something that you need to break or destroy and is not re-attachable in any way.

I have read the thread about the fake BV, I would be pi**** if I got fake MJ, but a bag that costs that amount of money, I can't believe they don't have someone checking every single one that is returned.

I just can't believe this actually happens!

I think it is POSSIBLE. My first Balenciaga purchase was from Neiman Marcus, I bought online, and when I got the bag (GSH City Nero) the leather was extremely dry and very thin (I have since bought other BAL -- Town, Velo, Day -- and didn't have that issue). I couldn't justify the cost so I took it back to the physical store. When I handed it over to the sales associate she only glanced at the bag, in fact I don't even think she looked at it all, so I assumed they just destroyed high end bags rather than reselling them or that there was some other way that they could tell that this was the original bag they sent out. But I'm not sure

I am almost afraid to post on this coz last time I got railed at by some posters that this "NEVER" happens, when I have seen it with my own eyes.
I have given up shopping online since I got hacked and my accounts compromised at Nordstroms.
And since I have personally seen fakes on the shelf at 2 major department stores I have become OCD about checking bags for defects and authenticity. If it has a return label or "pop" tag I ask for another or get it from a different store.
What else can you do?

My friend who worked in a very high end retail store said it happens. She said there were designer bags returned that were fake but because they had the tag on them the store HAD to take them back. These bags were supposed to be put in the back room and who knows what would be done with them but sometimes the sales people would put them back on the floor. So it is possible to buy a fake and not know it if you have never bought that brand before and know what to look for. Scary but true.

Something a friend of mine suggested was that you ask for another item/bag/size anf check if there are differences, which makes sense as the likelihood that they have more than one fake of the same item is very low. You can't really do that online though. Now I'm a bit paranoid as I just ordered from Elyse Walker online lol will definitely post pics on the relevant thread to have the item authenticated... so annoying!

I still don't understand why stores don't put authenticity seals on their bags. Yoogi's Closet does this. They do not accept returned bags without that seal still intact, so it is impossible to buy the real thing and then return a fake. It seems like a simple solution really.

I recently bought a pair of Prada shoes from Neiman Marcus online. They are complete fakes. How do they not notice these thing when they are returned or before the ship? I've gotten dresses that had been worn and stink of perfume and covered in deodorant that clearly have tags re-attached from NM. But this is the last straw. The shoes have a pink sole that have been painted on and the gold Prada logo on the soles is painting pick along the sides. The section of the ball of foot is way to small. The one shoe makes a clicking noise in the platform when I try to walk in them. I have several pairs of Prada shoes and these aren't Prada. I'm so disappointed. I can't even bring myself to look at them since they arrived. I was waiting so long for these shoes and they were the only pair left available. It now makes me wonder about the Gucci bags I purchased from Neiman Marcus.

I hope you return them and complain to NM. That's terrible and it shouldn't happen.

That's so horrible!

I buy a lot of Prada/miu miu, and while never getting anything from NM/BG that looked fake, I did end up with a pair of miu miu's from Bluefly that were complete fakes - they bled, broke apart, where weirdly fitting, etc. I should've filed a complaint but I was so mad I just tossed them...I hope you can file a complaint & get your money back!!
