Hiya everyone!
I have been a member here for years and love love LOVE handbags, as all of us here do! Problem is, I have been fighting with Systemic Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis for years now and have fiinally gotten to the point where I can no longer comfortably wear my designer bags on my shoulder due to their weight and my degenerative discs in my neck.
I am looking for a great, super lightweight, non-leather (or a very lightweight leather) bag thats very awesome, classic, easy (no Vera Bradley or "loud" flashy designs, please).
I think I am just ready for something more "comfortable" for me to handle on a daily basis (geez, I never thoought I would say THAT! Haaaa~)

Things I have that I have worn & loved for years (for reference):
* Marc Jacobs Stams (these HAD to go because of their massive weight when full)
* Chanel tote
* Rebecca Minkoff Nikki's & MAM's

Thanks, everyone!!!

Hi coop!! :smile1:I just bought a Chicobag Hobo while on vacation and on a whim as the MbMJ Natasha bag I was wearing kept digging into my shoulder...anyhow, it's probably one of the cheapest bags I've ever bought and by far one of the most lightweight and comfortable ones!!! It can hold a ton or just a little and still looks great. Pics really don't do it much justice and it is quite functional! The strap is wide, and comfortable and does not dig at all! I mean it's no fashion statement, but some times, for me at least...comfort and practicality seem to win out these days! I honestly love it and am finding it hard to switch back to one of my designer bags now that I'm home! Here's a link to the bag I bought:

If you want something designer, try a Bottega Veneta - Veneta Hobo! They come in many sizes and colors, it's beautiful woven leather, but honestly so light weight you'd be amazed! Gorgeous, gorgeous bag and still meets your parameters too!

Thanks, Scoobs!
That's a really cute Nylon hobo~ I like the purple alot!

I was actually thinking BV. You know I really love them!

I have a BV, medium size (my first), that is so lightweight it's like it's not there. I usually carry it handheld but it will fit on my shoulder. The particular bag I have is for spring/summer, so it will be put up for the fall - I am a die-hard BV Cervo Hobo woman, and I can tell you this bag loves your shoulder - it's lightweight, the strap is so comfortable, and it will hold as little or as much as you like. You can also grab it and go, carry handheld, hug it to you - whatever. Deerskin is water-friendly, stains or dirt wipe off, easy maintenance.

Check out the BV sub-forum. :heart:

MZ Wallace is currently on my short list because it's so chic and structured while still being incredibly practical.

For very very lightweight as well as super affordable look at Lesportsac (lots come in solid colors as well as prints).

I'm also a big fan of ditching the separate wallet and using a wristlet or crossbody that has wallet features (credit card slots, currency pocket(s)). I don't usually like Coach but they have several bags that are great for this. Zippy Wallet and Kristin Wristlet both are small wristlets with card slots and room for a phone and keys at the least. The Kristin Crossbody also has card slots and a currency pocket but holds a little more. All are really lightweight and slip inside a larger bag. For example, the Kristin Crossbody could take the place of both a wallet and a phone/sunglass case in your larger bag, saving a bit of weight. But they also stand alone if you just need to run out to the store.

I love Tod's bags and totes! The leather is so incredibly lightweight and many don't have any hardware except for a zipper to weigh the bag down. They also make great nylon and leather trim hobos, totes, and bags that can be worn crossbody.

I know this is an old post, but wanted to see if anyone had newer suggestions for fabric (non-leather) bags (shoulder bags primarily). I am tired of Coach signature, but I try to limit how much leather I purchase and am having a hard time finding quality fabric bags that do not look tacky. Any suggestions would be welcome- thanks!
