Hey ladies and gents, I'm in a summer frame of mind and dreaming of travel (and the perfect bag to accompany me, of course!). Let me set the stage. Perhaps I wake up in the south of France and walk for miles and miles, through vineyards and farms and small, artsy towns. Or perhaps I spend a day exploring Istanbul, wandering through neighborhoods and galleries and haggling in markets. Wherever I am, I set off in the morning knowing only that I'll be walking for hours and may not return until after dinner. Sure, I should take a nondescript backpack or crossbody bag with many pockets and a zipper closure, but I'm on TPF so STYLE is also hugely important to me.

The ideal bag would be a durable crossbody style with a weightless feel, a Valextra/The Row/Phoebe Philo-era Celine aesthetic, and a capacity large enough to hold a water bottle, umbrella, glasses, and a shawl or light jacket. Recently, I've used a Cuyana backpack (meh) and Deadly Ponies Mr. Siamese (meh and too small but perfect in the feel category) for travel, and I'm considering using one of my all-time favorites, a Fendi Selleria Lei bag (a boston bag style) for my next trip. It can look a little bulky and I'd also hate for anything to happen to it, but maybe I need to get over these reservations. What else should I consider? I know people like the Loewe Puzzle and Proenza Schouler PS1 for travel, but I really don't know what else, and am shocked that I'm having trouble finding other options.

I'd like to keep this under $1000; pre-loved is ok. As it's summer, I'd love a pop of color, but will consider black and brown options too.

TIA!

I feel like aside from lightweight a good strap that helps balance and distribute the weight is important ( at least to me because after a few hours even the lightest bags can start to weigh down/dig into my shoulder.
I agree. My Mr. Siamese and Lei bags both have wide straps that help with this. Fortunately, I also think wide straps look better/cooler for this purpose.

Adding pics of both for reference.

If you want roomy, weightless, stylish, crossbody and semi-affordable my suggestions would be Le Pliage Cuir tote with an addition of a wider crossbody strap by Fendi, large size PS1 is roomy weightless and organize, The Row double circle in medium but you may be able to get away with a small, the little bag that could. I have travelled well with a Bal Part Time bag plenty of room for small umbrella shawl water bottle, maybe too heavy and expensive a large H Evelyne.
I tend to use my Cuir for excursions, its bulletproof, weightless, packable and I don’t worry about anything happening to it.
Good luck and keep us posted.
BTW I had a Lei bag and returned it because I found it very small for my needs.

My vintage Mulberry Antony in glossy goat is my favorite adventure bag.
Lightweight, roomy, plus the strap is wide, comfortable and adjustable.
Mulberry Roxette is also something that would probably be worth looking into.
