Thought I’d ask a few questions on Botox and fillers as I am considering getting both. I have been doing my research but would love to get some thoughts from those that have had experience as I don’t know anyone around me that have had these done.
I am thinking of getting Botox for my frow lines and filler for my cheeks. I know they are both not long lasting so wonder even if it’s worth it for a few months.

  1. What did you get Botox, filler or both?
  2. What type of Botox or filler did you have, hylaronic acid, sculptra, juvederm?
  3. Which areas? Target problem e.g. wrinkles, hollow skin
  4. Noticeable difference after Botox or filler? Did family or friends notice?
  5. Any problems? E.g. bruising, swelling, anything serious?
  6. Would get it again? Or if you have had it regularly how often do you get yours?
  7. Anything else I should know? Or non invasive skin treatments to consider?

Both can be quite long lasting. There have been times I’ve gone six to eight months. I believe that either people have to have this more often if they are unusually expressive (another member of my family is), but more likely the Botox has been diluted.

1. Both
2. Vollure Filler and IDK what kind of Botox. I’ve also had a variety of dark skin lasers (Ella max, pico sure, clear and brilliant, for discoloration and to help with overall aesthetics).
3. An experienced cosmetic dermatologist will not just inject problem areas, but have you make certain faces and take pics.
The Botox will be applied around the entire area as needed, not just the actual wrinkle. You should still be able to make expressions and the area should not look frozen or shiny. For filler, primarily cheeks and jaw/chin
4. No noticeable difference. Even my mother, when she noticed, attributed any changes as from weight loss and relaxation.
5. No problems. I strongly recommend you do the research and go to the best, most experienced place. I personally would not
Go to a med spa. My cosmetic derm is extremely experienced and also is a dermatological surgeon. I have never esxperienced any of the horrors like migration of filler etc. I also personally would not travel for bargain procedures. I prefer to stay close to home.

6. I still get Botox. I found that I prefer fat graft to filler. More natural, more permanent. My cosmetic derm recommended a top surgeon double certified in ophthalmic and derm PS for a blepharo procedure, and I went with him (his wife is also a certified PS specialty). Despite some loss of experience fat graft (dur to natural attrition) I am thrilled with thr procedures. I expect to have some routine maintenance once or twice a decade. I did have a wet lipo procedure done (no cutting of the skin, and the recommendation is that this be done at your optimal weight, the weight loss to be very slow, gradual, and stable) and that is deliberately split into two separate procedures to keep the skin surface taut and at optimal condition.

7. I’m not really a fan of noninvasive procedures, and I have heard that things like thermage etc can make PS procedures down the road more difficult. I don’t know if that is the case or not, but I prefer to stick with what works for me.

For cosmetic dermatology, I go to NY laser: https://www.laserskinsurgery.com/meet-the-doctors/dr-roy-g-geronemus/
Geronimus is excellent as are several drs there.

For fat graft, wet lipo, and blep, I recommend https://jelksmedical.com/

I'll echo some of what @880 has said already. I first used Botox when I was 39 and having been using it regularly since then (~15 years). The newest form of Botox (or whatever the current iteration is called) lasts about 6 months. I visit a dermatology practice rather than a med spa and, as noted, my dermatologist injects the entire area (forehead/brow area). I have never had any friends or family comment (at least they haven't said anything to my face) and I mostly notice when the effects are fading and I look in the mirror and think 'wow! I look old'...always my reminder to book my next appointment. I once had a black eye post Botox injection as a I have a prominent vein near my left eye...I came up with a great story for those people that asked ;)
I have tried micro-needling but, TBH, didn't really notice a huge difference and it required multiple treatments and was expensive.

  1. What did you get Botox, filler or both? Both
  2. What type of Botox or filler did you have, hylaronic acid, sculptra, juvederm? Juvederm, for botox Im not sure but I know it is not dysport
  3. Which areas? Filler in lips, have previously gotten it in nose but do not recommend bc of safety risks. Did not redo the nose. Botox in crows feet and forehead. I did botox as a preventative measure as I am very expressive and creases were beginning to develop on the forehead and around the eyes from my constant facial expressions.
  4. Noticeable difference after Botox or filler? Did family or friends notice? No, no one noticed. I get 1 syringe in the lip which makes very little difference, really just looks like I am always hydrated. IMO the botox is more noticeable when I lift my eyebrows because the lines are no longer there
  5. Any problems? Slight bruising and swelling after filler injection is normal so prepare yourself bc you might be frightened at first. It goes down a LOT. Arnica helps! Filler does trigger a slight immune response from me (I have an autoimmune skin condition and I do think filler causes it to flare up immediately after). Botox not so much.
  6. Would get it again? Or if you have had it regularly how often do you get yours? Botox every six months, lip filler whenever I feel like it but usually once a year. Yes, I'd do it again in the lips and botox all the time but I do not plan to have nose injections again.
  7. Anything else I should know? Or non invasive skin treatments to consider? I recommend starting with botox. Just to be completely honest with you cheek filler gives me pause. I think it depends on age - it can look beautiful on women in their 50s or so, but for women 20-30, I am not a fan. Fillers migrate and I think cheeks is the easiest thing to go wrong and look too swollen or puffy especially after years of injections. There are different types of fillers and bodies metabolize it differently, so yours might last longer than a few months. I plan to do PRF soon under my eyes for the bags.

1. I started Botox at 25. A small amount in the middle of my forehead and a few years later near my eye creases.
2. Wrinkles but also preventative
3. No ones noticed any facial freeze or anything. I’ve had people complain about Botox not realizing I had it. My cousin is the only one who’s noticed. She complemented me a lot for looking young at and eventually asked outright.
4. No problems
5. Yes, I get it every 9 months to 1 year.
6. Wear sunscreen :)

1. I have been having filler in my lips since I was 18 (now 27). I have always had Juvederm. Have tried another filler in my cheeks and had to have it dissolved because it didn't agree w me and hardened. Also have been getting botox since I was 25 for preventative measures. It's much easier to prevent than reverse wrinkles.

2. I have my full forehead and between my eyebrows done to the point they don't move so they don't wrinkle at all. When I try to move my forehead, my ears move because it's so frozen lol.

3. Much fuller lips (obviously). Much smoother forehead. Makeup looks nicer.

4. Apart from the cheek issue I mentioned, no issues.

5. I have my lips done every 9 months (used to be every 4-6) and maintain with 0.55ml of Juvederm. Botox every 4-6 months as needed.

6. The Juvederm they use in your cheeks will be one that lasts longer than lips as it's thicker and longer-lasting. It should last up to 12 months after your body is used to it. At the beginning, you will metabolise botox and filler at a much quicker rate.

I have both tox and filler. I only recently dissolved my fillers because they migrated (lips and cheeks). I’ve recently switched from Botox to Xeomin, but considering switching to JeuVeau or Daxxify as far as neurotoxins go. For filler, I had generic hyaluronic acid placed in my cheeks and lips by the med spa doctor I used to work for, but they’ve migrated so I had all of it dissolved 3 weeks ago during a rhinoplasty procedure. Generic hyaluronic acid has a tendency to migrate so I wouldn’t recommend that. I intend to get both lips and cheeks done again by someone else. I’ll likely get RHA fillers or Juvederm for both lips and cheeks. You may bruise slightly from Botox and some swelling from fillers, but it typically doesn’t look awful. I personally don’t bruise from injections, but everyone is different. As for swelling, it just makes you look a little filler for a couple of days. I would fully research the injector as much as you research the products. They may use top notch products , but all injectors have different techniques and philosophies to their methods and practice - It’s important they can execute the type of look you’re going for. I hope this helps!
