Excited! Bought myself Xmas present..VCA MOP pendant, but what's this with the box?

Hi Ladies,
I'm excited to share my Christmas present to myself. I'm in love w it! Although Been eyeing this for awhile and finally got it. However, I just noticed today that in the box, there's this black little cushion thing (left side in the picture)...what is it? Anyone know? Thanks for letting me share and hope everyone had a good Xmas and Happy New Year!!

Does it protect the pendant from flapping around and hitting the inner lid in transit?

I think it’s a pendant protector as per @saligator’s post.

When you first open the box, it should be sitting on top of your pendant so the item doesn’t move around/get damaged in transit.

Got my 1st pendant yesterday too and as comments above it’s for protecting your piece, you put it on the pendant before closing the box.
