Hi I need some opinions I have this Evelyne and I’m not sure if I should sell it or keep it? I read it’s a rare leather and color. Does anyone happen to know?

Barenia is sought after. For me personally I would keep it as I don't think it would be more than a few k to pocket. When was the last time you used it? If it was years ago, then maybe letting go might be an option.

My Fauve barenia looks different than this. Is this Fauve barenia? At any rate, from what I’ve seen recently, only barenia in pristine condition, in BK, commands top dollar. There is a sharp decline in resale price for worn bags. And, an evelyne pm or GM doesn’t get the best prices either. The only way you can know if it’s worth selling is to put it up for sale. I believe you got this advice on a similar thread you posted re whether to sell a BV cosmetic case

Yes I did about the BV I’m asking because I don’t know much about this Hermes and want to see opinions sorry if I’m not suppose to ask this here. I’m asking if people think I should hold on to it. Not asking how much it’s worth

Thank you for your honest opinion. No I’ve worn it pretty recent. I actually got it preloved less than a year ago. I paid $600 for it the condition wasn’t the greatest so I cleaned it up and it looks beautiful now. Only problem is I need a new strap and haven’t been able to find one. I don’t want to use an off brand strap. And I can’t find a Hermes strap to match.

You asked if you should keep or sell. Not sure why you are upset when people replied with a current assessment of the resale market for your bag. As to whether you should keep the bag, no one else can answer that question for you. Does it really matter if it’s a rare leather, hard to find combination, etc ? If it fits a niche in your wardrobe then it would make sense to keep it. If it doesn’t really work for your wardrobe/lifestyle/whatever fill in the blank reason, then sell. The relative rarity of a bag shouldn’t really factor into the decision to keep a bag. It either works for you or it doesn’t. Jmo.

Your best bet for a new strap is probably Etsy. Hermes doesn’t make much in the way of replacement straps (and the ones they do make are typically over-embellished and retail for way more than you originally paid for the entire bag).

I think you should keep it. It’s beautiful and you do have occasions to wear a fuss free bag, as said above.

I purchased a preloved barenia Evelyne 29 a few years ago. The canvas part of the strap was badly stained, but the leather ends and clasps were fine. I took the bag and strap to a boutique and asked them to send it to repairs. I asked them to clean the canvas part of the strap. I was happy when they came back with a quote to replace the canvas part….for $300 if I remember correctly. It was much cheaper than buying a $1k Hermes strap, and it’s still Hermes!

They cleaned and conditioned the outside leather and recovered the button with a new piece of barenia. All in all I paid $700 I think. Still more than what you paid, but it’s worth it to fix up the strap if it’s all that is preventing you from really loving the bag. It’s a great bag, and in barenia, really wonderful.

I wish we could see a pic of the bag before you got it cleaned! It looks great now. Just going off of your photo- if I were in your shoes I would just order a strap off Etsy and wear it. It has that vintage and rustic look! I'm not sure where you would be able to source a matching brand new strap.

If it makes you feel better, plenty of H users swap out their Kelly strap for a wider and more supportive fabric guitar strap. I don't think you would be looked down upon to have a non-H strap on an Evelyne, and I doubt a lot of people will notice since the default Evelyne strap is already just a glorified guitar strap lol.

If your purpose is to get a matching H strap so you can try to resell it at a much higher price... I don't think the resale market is hot for used Evelynes. Just wear it carefree!

I’m not sure how we can help answer that for you though. Do you use it? Does it suit your lifestyle? Do you wear a lot that will work with the colour? Do you value using bags or collecting them? Only you can answer your own question really. All others can do is offer information that would aid you, like what it would be worth to sell.

If you do not have a strap for it and do not want an off brand strap, that may answer your question right there though.

Thank you for the reply I didn’t know they could fix the strap I will definitely look into that. Did you also have the bag worked on to?
