Hi all,
I called Cartier today (I leave far from their boutique in Geneva) about my Étincelle diamond ring in white gold as I was planning to have it cleaned and maybe rhodium plated because it lost a lot of its shine. The person I talked to told me that this ring does not come with plating. Is this possible??
After this call, I went to my local jeweler and he told that he could see the rest of the rhodium plating on the ring..
Would any of you know if this ring is rhodium plated?
My jeweler proposed to give it a very light polish to plate it again with rhodium. I said yes but now I am having a second thought, thinking maybe Cartier wouldn’t look after my ring again if another jeweler does work on it.. :(
Any knowledge and advice is more than welcomed.
Many thanks for your posts.

Anyone to help?
Would you know about the Étincelle ring? Is it rhodium plated or not?
And would Cartier take care of a ring that was not rhodium replanting by them? If a repair is required for example?
Thanks!

Sry do not have much information here; je regrette. Gererally speaking WG with emeralds is rhodinated at Cartier, whereas plain WG is not.

If it's not brand-new why not have it rhodinated at your local jeweler?

Merci Scheurin :)
No it’s not, it is 10 years old.
I have to say I found the reply of the SA quite strange as I thought white gold and diamond jewelry at Cartier is rhodium plated. The ring itself is very delicate (2mm), maybe they don’t want to take the risk of damaging it when polished?
At the same time, my jeweler told me he will do a very gentle polishing and it will be ok..
I am still on the fence (very afraid to have the prongs of the ring more delicate if polished) but I am just go ahead with him.. He is an excellent jeweler (he created and made an amazing delicate engagement for me..).
Thank you again!

If the boutique in Genève is similar to the one in Zurich I'd stop thinking of them having any knowledge about their products.

Why not call the boutique à Bâle? They are excellent.

Bonjour Scheurin,
I called the boutique in Basel and yes, they seem to know their product really well. I got the confirmation that my Étincelle ring was indeed rhodium plated.
She also told me that if my jeweler is a good one (and he definitely is!) he could take care of my ring. So I brought it to him and here is the result: my ring looks like new! I am glad I did this, although I won’t do it too often due to the delicate nature of the ring (and this is not the pm version which is even thinner..).
Thanks again for your advices :)
