Engagement Ring Sizing

So I have been doing some reading and they say that you should size down on your engagement ring by up to half a size so it doesn't spin and stays on. I fell IN LOVE with a DY Wisteria ring that is on a resale site, but it is half a size smaller than what I wear (and with diamonds all around, can't be resized)...

Should I buy it? Did you all go a size smaller with yours?

I got my engagement ring from a family friend who is in the jewelry business and she told me that your engagement ring should fit snugly, but not so tight that you're not able to slip it over your knuckle when you need to take it off. It also depends on the width of the band, if it's thinner you should for sure downsize because it will spin. That being said, some spinning is inevitable since our hands swell throughout the day anyway (the best time to try on rings is in the early afternoon since our hands are slightly swelled). But don't worry because when you wear a wedding band, your e-ring will spin much less! My advice is compare the width of the band of rings you already have to the band of the Wisteria ring and determine whether it'll be too tight.

Agreed with what @xlana said. My wedding ring spins, which is a little annoying, but I'm afraid to take it down any smaller because swelling makes it fits better sometimes and less well at others.

I really don't know what my usual ring size is for my left ring finger, but I did have to take the band down smaller a couple of times, and it's definitely smaller than what I'd normally wear for costume jewelry.

I wear a 5 and a half. My knuckle unfortunately is a 6 an a half. So what I did was get a size 6 an a half and added sizing beads put in the ring and now it doesn’t spin. It spins slightly in the winter time when my hands are really cold but other than that it stays in place. Hope that helps.

Don’t size down. I see so many photos here with sausage fingers... not a good look and it makes your fingers look fatter.

Get the right size. Plus, your fingers will swell anyway so if you size down, it’s now super tight like you are squeezing into your ring.

Plus, with a ring you cannot resize that is already smaller than your refulsr size, there is no leeway for any fluctuation.

I would pass for sure!

Are your knuckle bigger than your finger?
I got my size last monday (my ering is being made atm), and the jeweler sad that it should fit just right, not too tight (sausage fingers) and not too loose.
My knuckles are bigger than my finger, so it will be looser anyway (without sliding of), which I personally like..can't stand it when rings, watches, bracelets and necklaces are too small :) lol.

Over the years, I've had to change the size on my e-ring to make it larger. Luckily it is a pretty simple style (classic solitaire) and the jeweler had leeway to make the adjustments on the plain metal side of the band. I recommend passing on the option that's slightly smaller than you are used to.

There’s something called “finger mate” that your jeweler should know about. I think that is what it’s called. The back of the ring sort of opens a little so you can slide it over your knuckle, and then closes shut when the ring is inplace on your finger. It’s not new and been around for many years. It cannot be done for eternity rings with stones all around, just rings that have plain metal backs. Keeps your ring secure on finger but big enough to go over knuckle.

I had to size my ring down my half a size. It's harder to get over my knuckle now, but overall it is more secure whereas before it would spin like crazy every time i moved my hand, especially with the weather cooling off.

Thank you:).
I actually like when rings spin a bit, I'm weird, I know.
