I’m interested in a three stone diamond setting on a rose gold band, with pears as the sidestones. The jeweller I'm talking to recommends that the setting is white gold so that the diamonds stay “white and brilliant”. However I've seen plenty of rings online where the setting and band are both rose gold, and without regard to the diamonds, I think it looks better.

This is the sketch he gave me.

What do you good people think, should the setting be white or rose gold?

I'm not particularly a huge fan of Rose Gold and I would probably go with the white gold myself, not meaning that I think it would show off the diamonds better, I just prefer the white and think in the long run it is the more classic.
But looking at your pictures I think it would look just as lovely in the Rose.

And just to add, I disagree with him since the only part of the ring that is Rose colored is the band and I don't think IMO that has anything to do with what color the stones will appear.
It's a very pretty setting btw.

my mom has a yellow gold band with white prongs, and the prongs are set so close to the diamond that you can't even tell theyre a different color. i do think it might make a difference if your stones are very white. if theyre a high color grade, i think rose gold prongs might make them look warmer.

I find it interesting he's suggesting gold for the prongs vs platinum. Either way they can definitely do it in RG. The stones will "pick up" some of the color of the rose gold, and make the stones look warmer, so keep that in mind.

My e-ring (I've posted a picture in the engagement ring thread) is a round brilliant in a pavé ring. I initially was thinking about white gold ring but my jeweller recommended rose gold and that's what I ended up choosing and loving! In a way, I feel like the diamonds stand out even more from the rose gold that they might have from the white gold. Your sketch looks beautiful with rg!

Thanks for all of your opinions!

I might not have been clear, but the band will be rose gold, and the setting/prongs I'm deciding between rose or white gold.

Interesting comment about using platinum instead Ame. Is there a reason to use platinum?

Strength, durability and lack of brittleness. If you snag a platinum prong, it will bend. If you snag a gold prong (white gold, rose gold, yellow gold) it will snap right off.
