Hi all, my wedding anniversary is coming up and we are looking to overhaul my existing tahitian black pearl ring.

We have spoken to a jeweller who custom made a ring for me years ago and has a particular contemporary style that I prefer over high street stores.

However we paid a lot for the first ring and are questioning whether we paid too much, hence I would love some advice about this if anyone happens to be a jeweller or knows a lot about pricing.

Firstly it isn't a stock ring, she only does custom made rings, but this particular one happens to be the jeweller's own personal ring, but she said she'd be happy to make the same one for me. Here it is:

We have been quoted £2400 for it. (18kt rose gold). I mentioned I thought it was pricey and she was prepared to drop it to around £1950.

_She would be supplying the gold, crafting and setting.

_I would be supplying the pearl.

What do you think, is it a decent price or should we look elsewhere for another jeweller?

Thanks for your help.

well gold is really high right now, but even with the raw product material weight it would still be high, as is all designer jewellery. the style of it is very different and if this is what this designer specializes in then I wouldnt try to make another designer make something like this.
I live in Canada and I find that our prices for jewellery are less expensive then the UK, so hopefully someone from the UK can chime in to give you advice if this is normal or too high. it looks like a nice chunk of gold is in that ring so even if it were made in Canada I would probably estimate it at around 3k CDN for the ring which is close to your price.

Hi Candice, thanks for your response, yes she said the same also about the price of gold being through the roof.

Yes the style is different for certain, it's suited to my particular taste. Yes I can confirm the gold amount will be substantial, my other ring has twice the amount of this one - it's a double ring one on top of the other and it weighs quite a lot.

Okay that's good to know. Will think on it overnight before making my decision, appreciate your swift response, thanks.

If I understood you correctly and she also made your previous ring, I would be looking for a hefty discount for your repeat business. I think the price seems a tad too much, even taking gold prices into consideration.

Personally, I would never get my engagement ring redone - for sentimental reasons.
It would not be my engagement ring anymore - just another ring.

Why not just get a new "anniversary" ring.

Thanks amina, I was concerned about the price given that I'm supplying the pearl.

Bebe, thanks for your opinion but please note not everyones circumstances are the same, I actually bought my own engagement ring with my own money knowing full well I'd change it one day. And for the record I didn't have a wedding dress nor a bells and whistles wedding so I think I'd like to spoil myself after 10 years of marriage ;)

Hello - Would you wear the anniversary ring on your right hand? I am looking for ideas myself. I am so over my engagement ring look. You can see my ring design everywhere.
