Engagement Ring Dilemma

So I have two questions in one post just to condense everything.

First thing I’m struggling with is the design of my custom e-ring. I’m so torn. I have a 2 carat OEC that I thought I initially wanted set into a super simple/classic solitaire band. No other stones on the side, pave, etc. Well, lately I’ve been seeing so many gorgeous rings that have small stones on the side of the band or what I have especially come to love, small baguette side stones! I’m really so torn as to what my heart wants. It’s impossible to decide! I don’t want to regret how I’m getting the ring made, and don’t know whether to stick with the original design(which I really do love!) or possibly explore the side stones? I never wanted something super flashy or blingy which is why I wanted a simple solitaire. But… those baguette stones are just  I have tiny fingers (size 3.5) so I thought that the 2 carat would look really nice alone. I think possibly having any stones, especially baguette style on that size finger would be too overwhelming? I’m not sure if I would get “sick” of the side stones. I do realize that in the future it can be reset. I know this setting isn’t permanent/the be all end all. Also, I was thinking I could get a blingier wedding band that has some baguette stones to fulfill that desire. lol Help! Just want opinions I suppose and any of your stories of what you did if you were in this situation!

Second dilemma! I’m getting a custom e-ring made in 18k yellow gold but have been looking at wedding bands from various other vendors. I will still be getting it in 18k yellow gold, but since it is coming from a different person I’m wondering if the difference of the color of the yellow gold will be vastly different and look weird with my e-ring? Is this something I should be “concerned” about? Has anyone had this thought go through their mind before? My e-ring is very simple and the yellow gold is just on the band. The head is platinum so there’s not even that much yellow gold I suppose….

Thoughts? Thank you!

Why don't you try some solitaires a similar size on and see how you like the look with diamond set wedding bands? I wouldn't worry about the tone of gold - if both rings are 18 k I'm sure they will look just fine.

I have small diamonds accents on my e-ring band - quite subtle but I like the look. If you want to see a pic of my ring I'm happy to post one. I'm about size 4 so similar size to you.

If both rings are 18k, the color should be the same. Even if it's from different vendors. So I wouldn't worry too much about that.

As for the setting design, given how small your fingers are, I would imagine a simple solitaire with one side stones will work best? 2 carats on a 3.5 size finger will be taking up a very decent spread already. If you want some added bling to the ring, how about considering pace on the shank instead of side stones?

Solitaires and tapered baguette rings are both very classic and timeless designs. If you are not able to try on baguette rings, try drawing and cutting out an accurate outline of your OEC with baguettes that match your desired dimensions. Depending on the setting, the baguettes may be tilted and tucked under the center stone, so they will be a bit shorter looking from the top view.

I think you can wear a three-stone ring. EpiFinatic has a 3.04 ct OEC in a setting with baguette side stones (ring size 4.5).

Another example with a 2.19 ct RB on a size 4.5 finger (post #10).

As for whether differences in 18k gold is a problem, it depends on your eyes and whether you are bothered by varying shades. Vendors use different alloys so absolutely gold will be different colors even if they are all 18k. The color difference may be subtle or not. For example, yellow gold can be cooler (greenish) or warmer (pinkish). If you want the rings to match, have the same bench make the rings at same time.

The golds shouldn't be too different, it will be a matter of what alloy is used--and this assumes they're custom making it or ordering it premade. Depends on a lot of variables.

I think the concern about the setting means you've not found the right one yet. I LIKE settings with side stones/pave/whatever, but I feel like the maintenance and worry about how long I will like the look are enough for me to admire them and go back to a solitaire. But for other people it is important to keep looking til something makes you swoon and when you keep going back to ONE setting...that is usually the right one. Tastes do change over time though. So as you know...maybe in 5 years, you reset it.

My finger is 3.75 and I have a large stone. I love the solitaire w/ baguettes, your finger size + center size of stone + baguettes would be totally fine IMO

image.jpeg I love side stones. Here's my ring approx 1.24 carat in the center with tapered baguettes. I think my ring size is 3.5 or 3.75. Two carats in the center would absolutely work!
We've been married 21 years, I've had this ring for 11 years, and I love it just as much as I did when we first got it. Unless it's lost or stolen, this will be my last set because of how much I love it. I can't rule out upgrading the center stone though lol.

Your ring is absolutely stunning! I love it so much!! :)

Thanks everyone for your replies! In my heart I am always gravitating to the plain solitaire setting more than any other kind, so that is what I'm going to stick with. I know in the future I can change the setting so if I do decide I wanted baguettes or something more intricate, I can get it in the future!
