Hi ladies, my boyfriend and I recently have been talking about getting engaged and he has been asking me what kind of ring I would like...but there are some many beautiful styles out there...it's just so hard to choose. On one hand I was thinking about going for the classic Tiffany solitare in white gold and on the other hand I was looking into getting something more antique looking. Whatever it is, I want to go with a bigger stone (2.5-4 cts) since an engagement ring in my profession is a really good advertisement for my clients (I'm a matchmaker), I also want to look for a ring that I can also fit a nice band with and wear the band on it's own when I am just going out and about or to the gym. Any suggestions from ladies who love theirs? Any recommendations of companys or designs?

Just curious why you wouldn't want to wear your ring all the time?

Well first and foremost go try stuff on. All kinds of stuff. Get a feel for what you like on your hand.

I will say that most antiques out there are not set in a way that a standard straight band will sit flush. And low set anything doesn't generally work so well with a standard straight band. So plan for that. I think a simple solitaire is the most classic and easily paired with a band. Tiffany or similar. It is very versatile and you can change the look with a different style band, antique style or otherwise.

IF you like the look of an antique diamond, but want great performance, check out Good Old Gold (on long island, goodoldgold.com for eshopping) and look at the August Vintage rounds and cushions. IN SANE. They have just about anything else as well.

What does that matter? Its not a requirement that it be always on. I don't wear my ring all the time. Hell I don't wear ANY ring all the time, I think I've had A ring on maybe 5 hours in the last two weeks, and that doesnt make me any less married. I like to keep it clean and safe and sleeping in it, showering in it and wearing it to work out and work hard with my hands is going to do more damage than keeping it off for those things.

Once married I DO want to wear my wedding band ring all the time, but if I had a huge engagement ring I would probably would not wear it to the gym, for travel washing the dishes or going to the market, I would want to wear it for work or when I had somewhere nice to go.

I think carnel is right. Rings have a many types and Designs therefore you can try on finger one by one and check which is best suitable for you. During these time you can also go with your best friends or a BF.
