Hey everyone,

I am looking at buying a pre-loved LV Empreinte Monogram Key Pouch (the old wallet like style with the snap closure). It's listed as in 'very good condition' and from a reputable seller but has notes that there is some cracking.

I'm fairly new to buying LV and this will be my second purchase. I'm just wondering how cracking on a leather key pouch impacts it's daily use and lifespan? I've attached some images to hopefully help this make more sense. Would you buy or stay clear from getting this? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Would not buy for any SLG.
Many SLGs are work horses, especially a key pouch or key holder.
They will be opened and closed almost every day and there will be daily strain on the points of stress, which are those cracked areas.

If you buy it, those cracks are probably just going to get worse over time and use.

You could ask LV to fix it for you but there is no guarantee that they will agree to do it (seems like it depends on the store and/or SA) and if they do, there most likely be a repair price. Which sounds a little counterintuitive when buying a pre-loved item (since one of the main reasons to buy pre-loved is to save money).

Just my two cents though.

To play devil’s advocate, in my experience, I had a LV canvas key holder for 8 years and I recently bought a new one to retire my old one.
My old one has held up incredibly well. There are small cracks at every open/closer corner but they are just there. I never noticed when they appeared but they never really got worse. And I don’t baby any of my SLGs or bags.
So there’s also some food for thought.

It is the glazing that is cracking and repairable. They will probably charge you. About a year ago LV was charging me $100+ for that type of repair for the coin card holder I got my hubby which was aboout a $500 item. It was a quality issue and they knew about it.I complained long enough about it to them that they ended up not charging me. It was also thanks to my CA who advocated for me and $$$$$ purchases I did the day I picked it up after being repaired. More prinicipal than anything. I was also not happy them charging me about 25% the price of the item.

Depending on how much is the wallet vs you buying it brand new, it might be worth it. Check with a CA at a local store on how much is a glazing repair. If you do so, your item will be sent for assessment. They will repair if they deemed it authentic. I bought a bag preloved and had them reglaze. It was worth it to me being able to save half the price on a bag that was limited and sold out and also determine authenticity at the same time.

This item is no longer made so preloved is the only option. I bought mine last
Christmas from The Real Real. It is a 2015. I have used it every single day since and am not careful with it. I stuff it and keep my car key fob inside. I have the same cracking and honestly had not even noticed.

Melting, cracked glazing like that Is a known design fault with LV, nearly everything produced in certain years had soooo many issues.

who cares if buy for self use, as long as it's authentic, looks decent and price is good enough for the value. I buys small leather goods, bag charm, twilly, scarf etc all the time from second hand market, I buy brand new if intended to give someone as gifts.
