Hello! I have a Botkier bag from ~2010/2011ish that is made of snake print embossed cow leather.

As you can see, some of the embossed texture and color has lifted and peeled away. The embossed bits seem to have a glazed finish, but now some of the matte finish with no/less color is showing from underneath.

The scale embossing still remains even if the glazed printed finish has come off. Is there any hope of dyeing or painting a pattern with a leather coloring product on the bald spots so it looks less bald? Obviously won't get the glazed finish and exact pattern back but it's so patchy looking in some parts and just wondering if there's anything to do other than accept it haha.

Thanks!

Any acrylic paint will do the trick - if you have a Tandy Leather store near you, take the bag in and ask their advice for colors and finish, etc. But on your own - go to your nearest hobby store (Michael’s?) and match that first brown that catches your eye - and paint a tiny bit, let it dry, and see what you think. On this bag, the world is yours! Have fun with it!

Definitely an amateur craft job, but more or less accomplished the goal for $45 in craft supplies and a few hours on a snowy afternoon.

I knew I'd never get the original texture and pattern back, and looking close it's definitely not great, but also I think an improvement on all the bald spots, especially from a distance. Decent way to get more use out of a ~10 year old bag!

Got a quote from a bag spa for ~300 which is fair I think for the work to be done by a pro but more than the bag is worth. I'm sure I could have commissioned a local artist to do it for a reasonable price instead but eh.
