Hi ladies! I Saw something cool on tiktok!

Has anyone purchased the bean key ring and made It into a necklace? I read they sell the 16" at the store for $30 and 18" for $50 ... I would love to see your DIYS because im dying for the bean necklace but if I can make the same for $350 I would prefer to do that... is the bean keyring and bean large necklace the same size?

I purchased the bean keyring and Tiffany silk cord today to do this! I’m still trying to figure a way to thread the cord through the bean. It fits easily, but I can’t angle it well enough to get it out the other end. I tried taping the cord to thin plastic tubing and threading that through, but it’s too wide. I’m buying some floral wire tomorrow and hope that does the trick!

Hello, I converted mine years back. Mine is north/south orientation vs east/west, but my posts showing how I converted it might be helpful for you. I used a very large, long needle (used for upholstery I think).

Another idea for the cord, this is a useful upgrade (another member posted). It allows it to be adjustable.

Your post gave me the courage I needed to try this out:-) I found the idea from Googling images of the necklace but didn’t dare try it myself until I had seen your post. I actually bought an upholstery needle from Amazon last night, and it will arrive by Sunday. I realized the floral wire will be problematic. You’re an inspiration! I love the idea of an adjustable cord, too. Thank you for sharing this!

I did the same thing a few years back with a keychain that a wonderful member here gifted me. It is one of my favourite statement pieces. I have both a short necklace to wear it easy / west on my collarbone and a long necklace to wear it north / south mid sternum.

Upholstery needle makes it easy. Here is another trick, thread the needle with actual thread. Loop the thread around your necklace and through itself (the thread) as if you are lassoing the necklace or do it through the loop at the end of the necklace. Pull tight. Then you thread the needle into the bean and the thread will pull the necklace through. This allows you to use any form of necklace - cord or chain.

So glad my post was helpful. Best wishes with your project! I'm often wanting to change/customize things. Where there's a will, there's a way!

That is brilliant! Do you happen to have pictures of your DIY piece? Thank you for the tip!

Well, the upholstery needle was too thick. However, I was able to feed the cord through one end enough that it barely peeked out the other end. I then used a regular sewing needle to pluck it out.
The bad news is I realized I bought a 16-inch cord from Tiffany, and the official necklace I tried on had an 18-inch cord. The 18-inch cord from Tiffany is on back order, but Michael’s carries 1.5-mm rattail cord that is almost identical to the Tiffany cord (I brought it with me to compare). So, I present the DIY large bean necklace on the cheap! The length isn’t exactly 18 inches since I was so excited that I just tied it together in 2 knots at an estimated 18 inches. But it worked!
The bean keychains aren’t currently available online, but try calling around Tiffany stores or stopping in to see if they have one. I can’t believe I lucked out and my store had one in stock, saving me around $800!

Now that I have a cord, I will need to study this video to learn how to properly tie it! Thank you!!!

I'm so glad you were able to proceed even though your needle was too thick. :flowers: I'm so impressed that you were able to snake the cord through without a needle! I was just lucky that I happened to already have a needle that was the right size when I converted mine. I've not yet tried to make an adjustable cord, let us know if you give it a try. I'm thinking waxed cotton cord may be easier to use for that.
