Here is a very quick and ingeneously clever way of making your own lip gloss! This is especially handy when you have nearly finished your lipstick and aren’t sure what to do with the leftovers stuck at the bottom of tube.

What you will need:

1. empty pot (I’m using a pot from a sample received from Benefit. In fact, I always ask for 4 or 5 with every purchase as they are so handy to have)
note: make sure the pot is not metallic!
2. a lip balm of some sort (Aquaphor, Vaseline, Kiehl’s, etc.)
3. lipstick
4. bobby pin
5. and some shimmery powder (optional)

Before you begin, make sure you clean your pot and the bobby pin thoroughly. Scrub them clean with a disused toothbrush and swirl some rubbing alcohol in the pot to eradicate any bacteria and other nasties. Clean the bobby bin with the alcohol too. Ensure both are completely dry before proceeding.

Here we go!

Step 1:

Scoop the lipstick out w/the bobby pin and put into pot. As I hadn’t gotten to the bottom of my own lipstick tube (by the way, I am using Estee Lauder’s Hydra Lustre Lipstick in 03-Pink Champagne), I simply sliced off a good chunk with a shark knife.

Step 2:

Add your lip balm of your choice into pot. Here I have used a generous spoonful of the ever faithful Vaseline.

Step 3:

Zap it in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds or until it has liquified. Take out of microwave and mix well with bobby bin.

Step 4 (optional):

Add your shimmery powder to pot. Here I have used Higher Love by Tony and Tina as I like my glosses to be shimmery. They make your smackers look bigger!

Step 5:

Clean the edges of the pot with tissue or paper towel. Transport to fridge and leave to cool for about 10 mins. And voila! Your very own lip gloss! :yahoo:

Very nice. I have an old Avon lip color that is pretty much destroyed and i might be able to bring what's left to life in another way! Very nice, love the pic by pic steps!

For those who don't like pots, why not try these:

Just like the Stila gloss ones.... I haven't tried making my own lip gloss and using these but I have used them for decanting UDPP and I was shocked at how much was left over!

That is such a cool tip! Thanks!!!

and MCB100, you can get cheap pots quite easily at the drugstore. You can even use old lip balm pots if you've got them lying around. Just make sure you clean them well. I just use the sample pots I get from the Benefit counter.

Very cool tips! I did try making my own and putting it in an empty lip gloss tube and it leaked, darn it. But the lip gloss itself turned out great...I used Vaseline and some leftover Estee Lauder lipstick.
