dyeing a leather handbag

I purchased a lovely tan, old Gucci bag that had so issues that required dyeing.. So I took it to Gucci so they could do the work.. I would never dye my own bags it worries me...

Some people may scream with horror, but I have had great success "freshening up" my pile of vintage black Coach bags with leather dye. I saw some in the shoe polish section of the grocery store, and figured that it might work on the graying, worn edges of these bags (which still had tons of life left in them).

The leather dye covered a multitude of sins, and when it was dry I just went over the bags with leather cream and buffed them with an old cotton tee shirt. I don't know whether this would work to actually change the color of an entire bag, but it worked miracles on my black ones.
