The Rock's Mom Car Smashed by Drunk Driver in Head on Collision

The Rock says his mom, Ata Maivia-Johnson and his cousin were struck HEAD ON by a drunk driver this week ... and luckily, they survived.

Dwayne Johnson posted a picture of the crash and you can see both cars were clearly totaled. The Rock bought his mom an Escalade in 2012 and it looks like that's the vehicle she was driving.

Details surrounding the crash are still unclear but the Rock's cousin Lina Fanene -- who currently works for WWE's NXT division -- posted a photo of the actor/wrestler visiting her in the hospital.

Ata and Lina also posed for a pic in the SUV on August 2nd on their way to an event.

It's unclear what injuries the women suffered, but The Rock tweeted, "First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days."

What a terrible thing to have happen, but thank God they both survived and will be fine. I'll really never understand drinking and driving.

DH, DS and I were out last night for dinner and saw someone pulled over and being made to walk a straight line on the side of the road after he rear ended someone. He was ultimately cuffed and taken away. Driving while intoxicated from anything really irritates me. So many innocent lives put at risk for someone's irresponsibility.

The Rock Police Chase Preceded Mom's Head-On Car Accident

The driver who crashed into The Rock's mother and cousin earlier this month was evading police and ran a red light just before the crash ... TMZ has learned.

As TMZ previously reported, Ata Maivia-Johnson (Rock's mom) and Lina Fanene (cousin) were driving home from a charity event in Clermont, FL August 2 when they were involved in a head-on car accident.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department tells TMZ ... an officer was attempting a traffic stop when the driver took off and ran the light. Sheriffs say the officer began following the driver ... minutes later the woman crashed into the car with The Rock's family.

The female driver suffered facial injuries and was taken to the hospital. The Rock's mother and cousin were also hospitalized with injuries.

No word yet on whether she will be charged for the accident.

His mother and cousin were injured in a head-on collision last weekend with a drunk driver.
And Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson looked understandably relieved as he took mother Ata Naivia-Johnson home from the hospital on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old grinned as he pushed his smiling mother in a wheelchair in a new Instagram snap.

His family was in an accident: Dwayne shared this photo on Twitter Sunday of wreckage from an accident his mother and cousin were in; on Monday it was revealed the driver who caused the crash was being chased by police

Meanwhile, the police charged the woman who crashed into the car driven by Dwayne's mother with driving under the influence on Monday.

The head on collision happened on August 2 in Clermont, Florida, but Dwayne only revealed the details on Sunday.
The woman jumped two red lights as she was chased by the police, according to TMZ.

The star's mother was returning from a charity event with his cousin, Savelina 'Lina' Fanene, a WWE Diva.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department explained the accident happened just minutes after police started following the intoxicated driver.
Dwayne, whose pro-wrestling name is The Rock, shared a scary looking photo on Sunday of the wreckage which included two white cars smashed in the front with an ambulance in the background.

Ata and Savelina were in the white 2012 Cadillac Escalade the star gave his mother for Christmas in 2012.

The drunk driver 'suffered facial injuries and was taken to the hospital,' the site added.

Savelina posted a photo of The Rock visiting her in the hospital.
Without any makeup on and wearing prescription glasses, the beauty was almost unrecognizable.

She pulled a funny face as she sat in her hospital bed.

Dwayne has had a busy year.
He not only promoted his big swords-and-sandals epic Hercules, but he recently completed shooting Fast & Furious 7 opposite Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel.
He also shot San Andreas, about the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California; The Rock plays a rescue helicopter pilot in search of his daughter.

San Andreas is a major fault line in California.
The star appeared on the cover of UFC magazine's September edition and to celebrate shared an Instagram photo of himself topless while holding the issue.

He's so hot, but that last picture scared me a bit! Good to hear his mom and cousin are ok, you really don't know who you're sharing the road with when you get in your car :hrmm:
