Strapple,
I just bought the Dr. Groovee Q in the saddle color earlier this week! I love it. It's SO gorgeous. I am much happier with the saddle color than the black. The contrast of the gold hardware with the super supple leather looks better on the saddle colored bag, I feel. I must admit that color is my weakness as I have several pairs of boots/bags that are already that shade.
I'm not too sure where you're from...but if you are in the NY area, I suggest phoning stores before you head out and look for one. I had been searching for the bag all over NYC but many stores had completely sold out of it! Barney's only had one bag left, and it was the display. Bloomingdales is waiting on their new shipment and I put my name on a waiting list for it. They only have the Dr. Groovee in Black right now. I got pretty restless and decided I wanted it right away, so I ended up contacting the Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique....they had FORTY bags in stock. I headed over right away on Wednesday night and snatched one up. It's definitely the most popular (or second most popular bag -- to the Hillier Hobo -- which I don't like as much).
The violet color that is coming out for Fall 2008 is gorgeous. The people at the Marc Jacobs store said this color was available for pre-order if you're interested at all.
I wish this bag was a little larger, but I really appreciate the fact that it's shape and style is pretty much timeless.
The only unfortunate thing that happened was that I checked the bag over at the store and could not find any faults - it was taken straight out of the packaging for me. However, when I came home, I removed the hang tag around the handles and noticed there was a chunk of leather missing ...possibly ripped out by the rivets from the hang tag. I went back the next morning and they exchanged the bag no questions asked, without even looking at my receipt and promised that if anything else went wrong that they would have anything fixed for me ASAP. So, make sure when you purchase the bag that you give it a thorough inspection before handing over your $$$!!!!
In terms of leather protection, I opted not to use a leather spray as the salesman at Marc Jacobs recommended. Instead I chose to use a leather conditioner...which is basically like a waxy cream colored liquid that you can rub into the leather with a soft cloth. I feel it works a lot better than leather spray because it removes any marks or scratches. This bag is quite soft so it WILL get scratched easily if you don't protect it. Leather conditioner takes out any scratch marks instantly. It works miracles on super soft leather (shoes and accessories)!!!!
