Unfortunately, it's normal wear and tear, and it'll get worse.
I'd not a quality issue, this will happen to most drawstrings that have a particular finish on the leather. The continuous rubbing on the 'string' and the fact it's round will make the finish crack and glaze.
There's very little you can do, but maybe appealing some conditioning cream may help darken the crazing
