The Alto Collection -
Was introduced in 2001. Designed in America and crafted in Italy, the elegant Alto Collection offers the best of both worlds. These refined, structured bags showcase exceptional Italian leather with a rich matte finish and a patina that grows even more beautiful with time. Hand stitching and gold-plated brass hardware provide the perfect accents.

I don’t have any Alto’s in my collection. Never been drawn to those bags, until I saw the Viola. This bag is gorgeous. Does anyone have the Viola?

I've had my eye on the Alto Viola for years. Sorry I didn't buy it when it was
first available. The design is very structured and I think it's a small capacity
handbag. I was always waiting for the large size Viola at a good price....
I'm still waiting.

is that leather thick?
how different is it from florentine?
does it scratch easily?
Alto leather is thick and very structured.
It has a very fine grain, but isn't pebbled.
It scratches easily and the scratches don't buff out.
Over time it can develop a patina and a richness and
minor scratches are less visible.

Think of Alto as 'old world money' (in my opinion)...
one, very good handbag, you use for decades. Alto styles
tend to be more classic and have less hardware. The leather
itself is the feature of the style. Even the logo
is subtle and understated. In most cases, the color options are
limited to saddle, black/black, and red. Sometimes they add
additional colors to some styles.

Alto handbags are made in Italy.

I've been searching high and low for a particular bag in the Alto line and I'm hoping that perhaps someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. It's a mini version of the single gusset brief. If anyone has any any info, please let me know. I'm so utterly obsessed with this little gem that it boarders on "unwell" 🤪
Thanks ladies.
With warmth,
Elizabethe

📢 Calling Alto aficionados

My most recent addition is the Viola. Lovely looking bag. Says Made in Italy on the leather tag inside. However, the serial number on the D&B tag starts with B. I always thought the serial numbers on Alto bags start with I …?

As far as I know, all Altos are manufactured in Italy. I can't explain the B on the tag...
I've only seen that on Made in USA bags. But I admit, I'm no expert.
You could post of the authenticity thread, and see if one of the experts has more info.

This is my first Alto purchase. I got this beauty off Poshmark for under $60 and didn't realize at the time how good of a deal that is for this collection. I was looking for a Florentine messenger bag when I came across this and loved the thick strap and it being in black. It is in such great shape for it being considered vintage. I don't know exactly when this bag was made but from others have been told it's an older one. The leather is thick and sturdy and it smells better than my new Florentine bags which is crazy to me. I am waiting for the Alto Aria I just purchased to arrive on Friday to add to my collection. I am very excited and hope she's as beautiful as this one is. I will post pictures and give my thoughts.
