Thanks Ihb! It was quite an adrenaline rush! QVC had been promoting it for a while. Some of my co-workers at the time watched QVC and knew how many packages I received from them. They told me I should audition. I knew being a customer didn't necessarily translate to being a host, but I was in Drama in high school and had been on a couple of auditions in college so I thought if nothing else it would be fun. I went to Estee Lauder for a make up consultation and I bought the products she used on me. Then I went to a photo place in Woodfield Mall (Schaumburg, IL) and got some head shots. I got to the hotel in Chicago about 2 hours before the doors opened and the line was already long. But not nearly as long as it was going to get closer to start time. The line was out the hotel and down the block! We checked in, and went to a huge conference room where we sat in the order of how we checked in. It got so crowded people had to stand up against the walls of the conference room and some had to wait outside. They called us in groups of 5 to go with someone who escorted us to the elevator and the floor we'd audition on. There were chairs in the hallway next to each room so you could sit until it was your turn. The room had 3 tables, one on the side with products, one where the person auditioning you sat with the camera, and one in front of the camera that you could use if you wanted to sit down during your presentation, or if you needed the table for your product(s). The person auditioning me said I had two minutes to present my product. She would count me down when I had 5 seconds left. She said talk to the camera like you're talking to your girlfriends about something you really like. All of a sudden I had no idea how I talk to my girlfriends. I think I was trying so hard to be "me', and at the same time sell the product (Citiknits), it didn't work. And when she put up 5 fingers to let me know I only had five seconds left, I didn't know how to wrap it up well. It was a mess! I'm sure when I left she recorded the next audition right over mine. I knew it was a long shot but it was just something I had to do for myself or I would have been wondering "What if?" Now I know. I kept my day job!
This is awesome, I would be just terrible at that I am sure. Good for you! Thanks for sharing that with us.
