Good morning TPF
I am on the board of directors for a 501C organization and I was just asked to donate a handbag for auction.
I am not opposed to the idea at all...Just wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what bag did you donate... and how did you decide which one to donate. Don't want specifics about the $ just wondering the logistics.

I have been approached by a friend to participate in such an auction this coming fall. I plan on donating a clutch that I don’t use. (I have quite a few clutches as I love the style, but I have some I rarely, or never, carry.) It’s not H, but it is another well-known designer.
-I have the dust bag and box for it, as I think having the packaging with it might be appealing in the “like new” presentation (I think) enhances the item.
-It’s also dressy, which might be a good choice for a evening event where the participants are in a festive mood (possibly enhanced by drink & the atmosphere.)
-In my (limited) experience, these events, when well done, can result in bidding wars....and it’s for charity, so I want to donate a bag that is affordable to as many of those in attendance as possible.

I have done this; I choose what I think will appeal to the people in attendance and drive the most interest. For instance, I would not donate a rare bag like an SO or limited edition to an auction where any nice Birkin or Kelly will cause a frenzy.

I go to a few events each year where there is a premier designer bag or two in the silent auction portion of the evening ... not the live auction which is often trips, lovely accommodations, etc. I haven’t donated but I do own two Ferragamo bags that DH bought in a charity silent auction. Good thing I liked them each time ... ‘cause he went rogue on me ... lol. But here in New York City, for instance, Ferragamo is the sort of brand that might appeal to a wide group of Gala attendees, so consider the audience as you’re thinking about which bag. Cheers!

We hold charity sales annually, around Christmas usually.- I love them actually, fun & quite exciting. I’ve donated old mulberry and other vintage, mostly pieces, but I have seen current collection clothing & bags too. Let us know how you get on!
