Hi all- I searched the forum but the threads that ask about Togo "patina" are older, and there wasn't much info.

I recently purchased a togo B and the finish is much more matte than my other togo B, which is a couple of years older. I know Togo may vary with the cow/batch, but I'm wondering if you all have noticed that togo gets shinier with use, sort of like Clemence? Just not loving the super matte look....

Thanks all!

Personally, they don't, at least not as much as like a Clemence. My togo bags are still matte over time, and only the handles have been "shinier" or have developed patina because of use.

I am curious about this too! so clemence will eventually get that shiny patina? I had a clemence Jyspiere that I never really used, but it was still matte like my togo bags.

Very interesting. I have one togo from 2017 that is fine grain and isn’t shiny, but is “shinier” than my 2018 togo malachite, which has much larger grains. It may just vary from skin to skin, but interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Neither my togo nor my clemence birkins are shiny in any way.
Togo is matte and one year (I think it was 2016) it was drier than other years (so it looked ashy) which was aweful!
Clemence is softer to the hand and takes color extremely well but I wouldn't call it shiny.
This is what I have experienced....

Absolutely (for me). I have some Togo bags that are over 10 years old (more like 15, yikes..). They have unmistakably become shinier with use, especially the handles. I actually prefer them to be more matte, but oh well. I also have a well-traveled black clemence Kelly around the same age. It also has clearly developed a shiny patina.

Exactly my experience with both skins

I always think of Clemence as quite shiny even when new.
So interesting how much it seems to vary! I saw A clemence (or so i thought) birkin that was beautiful, shiny and slouchy. But who knows maybe it was an older Togo. I would Love to have a shiny slouchy clemence (or Togo) baby Birking but it seems like he newer leathers are more matte

My clemence jypsiere definitely has a sheen to it. I wouldn’t call it shiny though. I haven’t noticed my Togo bags getting shinier with use. But I have only owned them for about 3 yrs.

I think it's more the leather. My oldest Birkin is around 2008 and is really luscious Togo, quite sheeny.
Conversely I have two Togo Kellys, one 2015 that looks like most Togo bags I have seen, just neutral leather, and one 2017 that is super matte. They're all beautiful. I would say it's very much individual preference. But none of them have changed much if at all.

I've noticed that my Clemence B has more shine and moisture than my Togo K. To answer your question, I believe natural oils from your hands and any leather conditioner used would make Togo shinier over time.

I love both but Clemence is so yummy...
