Hello all, I have this ring that my mom gave to me, she purchased it about 25 years ago. It's two-tone with an opal in the middle and tiny diamonds on the side. I'm wondering if it looks too aged or if it actually looks alright? I'm thinking perhaps if it looks alright, I'll replace the middle opal with a spare diamond I have that's roughly the same size (0.4 ct) since the opal is quite foggy and old.
I've been staring at it so much, trying to make up my mind, that I don't really know what I think of it at all! Sometimes I feel like it looks okay, other times I feel like it looks aged.

Don't be afraid to be honest :amuse:

I love it! Something about it reminds me of the styling of a signet ring, and those are back in style. I like the opal stone also. The color blends in with the gold.
It does look a bit like a signet ring! I didn't think of that! I've def been seeing quite a lot of signet rings / vintage style rings around recently. I do like the opal but it's so old, it really does need to be replaced, do you think replacing with a diamond would ruin the look or would it look alright? Thanks for sharing your opinion, it helps a lot.

I think it would look lovely with a diamond center also. Hopefully they could set it low to keep the low profile, since I think low profile rings are best for a pinky ring.

I think it looks very retro, especially as a pinky ring/ Retro is making a comeback, too. I think it would look great with a diamond center stone if it's set low.

Your ring is better than great for a pinky finger. Check out expensive brand Retrouvai, they do contemporary with a retro vibe (and happen to look like your ring!).
I wouldn’t do anything with it. Take it for a professional clean and perhaps enquire about the centre stone, like what is it, is it compromised, etc. The ring you have is perfect as it is imo. I’m jealous

It is lovely! I would keep it as is, but my personal experience with a pinky ring even with a low profile is that I smacked my grandmother's diamond on a corner of a table and cleaved it. I, myself, stopped wearing pinky rings with stones because I was heartbroken in a nano second. Good luck, and I think the entire ring is beautiful just the way it is.

My opinion... yes, it looks aged. Equally as important in my view... It also takes away from your other pieces of nice VCA bling. It’s the setting, and changing the stone will not alter the aged vibe.

Wear it because you love it and if sentimental is your thing. When it comes to being sentimental, there is no such thing as aged.

Sentimental though is not my thing and I no longer wear my aged pieces (got rid of them actually). I wear jewelry as part of a fashion look.

If you love it, I’d keep it as is and not spend the money to alter it. Then it loses its sentimental value but still looks aged.

My two cents of course because you asked. Hope that helps.
Good luck!

I love it!!! You can always take to a small jeweler and they can give you some ideas. You can re-dip it in rose gold and put mother of pearl in the middle or replace it with a diamond. The platting, if done well will last you a long time

I actually really like the second picture you posted, and I think it pairs well with both your VCA and esp the diamond solitaire bracelet. I love vintage jewelry and find the quality much better (pieces more solid, etc), including with VCA. I love seeing the clever combinations people come up with to mix modern and vintage; it takes a special eye and I think you did it well here. Try replacing the stone since it seems this is the part that you are most ambivalent about, and show us your progress!

I really like it! I would definitely swap out the opal since that’s the more “aged” part in my opinion and also get a good clean and polish through a jeweller to remove the patina. It’s a cool style, low profile and perfect for a pinky ring!
