Hi all, I'm interested in an auction from this ebay seller, but noticed that there is a "newbie" with only 2 feedback that is agressively bidding on at least 4 of this sellers auctions. Not all that familar with shill bidding...mainly have just read about it here...and was wondering if this could possibly be happening here? If anyone would be so kind as to check out the bid histories and let me know what they think (or tell me how to research further)...I would appreciate it!! Would just like opinions before I decide if I want to keep bidding or look elsewhere....don't mind sellers making money...if its done honestly. Thanks so much!

I think this is legitimate. When you look at the bid history, click on 'show automatic bids'. What is happening is someone placed a maximum bid on the auctions. As the other person places a bid, the original bidders maximum bid kept upping the auction price. No shill bidding - just someone placing a higher maximum bid.

Haven't looked at the links yet, but I'd say it could be/could be not. Newbies tend to get into a bidding frenzy, sometimes I get bidders like that & I find it totally awkward and embarrassing as a seller - but so far they all turned out to be perfectly good legit buyers (touch wood).

Could well be the seller/seller's friend bidding up the price, IMO. :yes:

Might not be, though - might just be a genuine bidder who wants all of the items and hopes to combine shipping.

Doesn't really matter whether it's one high bid, or several smaller ones, on each auction, as it could still be shill bidding either way (although, if it's the former, it's not the type where they nibble up the price to try to find your maxumum bid).

Thanks for the replies! It just seems kinda funny to me...you know how you get that "feeling" in the pit of your stomach sometimes and it just makes you take a step back and say :thinking: ? Thanks for giving other senerios/thoughts as to what it might be. Now I just have to decide if I want to reward possible shill bidding or continue to look elsewhere. When you get that "feeling in your stomach" to me it is like a bell going off.

Always best to stay away in the long run. Sooner or later that item seems to

turn up and the transaction could be that much more pleasant.

I emailed seller and flat out asked 'Are you shill bidding...same bidder on 4 of your auctions?'..His reply-

yeah this guy is a pain i had to kick him off my one auction. he sometimes bids then wins and doent pay. but he paid for the last one he won. I think he's a hourder or something. lol have a good day.

This happened to me recently, I even opened a thread about it, unfortunately, shill bidding is hard to prove, even when you contact ebay customer service, and for them, it's a plus that the prices go up, more FVF for them.

wow...thanks for taking the bull by the horn so to speak and outright asking the seller!!! I was too chicken myself :lol:. Funny reply...common sense would be to block the bidder...so only conclusion would be they r in it together. Thanks again for all your input everyone!
