Yesterday, I decided to try the "magic eraser". I used the eraser on an old Compiegne Clutch that I use as a makeup bag. I cleaned the bag, and set it down to dry. Oh my, I turned around 20 minutes later, and the clutch literally looked brand new. Granted, I keep my bags very clean, but it looked like brand new virgin vachetta. I showed it to my husband and he said, "What did you expect? It has bleach in it and you better be careful. Don't use the eraser on your expensive bags, because the bleach is going to dry out the leather".

Well, now he has me scared to death. Has anyone damaged their bag(s) by using the eraser? Any long term negative effects? I'd appreciate any/all feedback....Thank you!

I destroyed a speedy's handles with magic eraser. I won't ever ever use it again. It destroys the leather. You will never get the pretty LV sheen back ever, no matter what you use. It removes the top layer of the leather. From then on, the bag will attract more dirt. These are harsh, abrasive household chemicals. Not meant to be used on gorgeous luxury fine leather.

Unfortunately I used magic eraser and although it removed some dirt it dried the leather out so much. Like charleston-mom said it takes away that beautiful sheen away. I used leather conditioner after and it looks a little better but not like before. I recommend not using it.

Yes I have seen magic erasers ruin the vachetta handles of a Speedy by making it look like velvet. I would not recommend using it.

If you ladies don't recommend magic eraser, what would or did you use to remove dirt on on straps?
