Does hiring a translator doubles the price of surgery?

Hi! I'm interested in hiring a freelance translator, but I've heard that if you bring a translator to a consult, it'll automatically double the price (or increase it). Is this true only for a translator from an agency or for a freelance too? Considering this, would it make sense to bring a translator who would help you negotiate the price?

If you are going to Korea, big clinics already have translators for foreign clients. Some foreigners use an agency that provides a translator. I'm not sure which is better in terms of price though.

Hi, I am wondering if there is any update on advice for this? I was thinking of looking into hiring a translator as well, especially for consultations in hope that it will help with negotiations.

(PMs also open if anyone has recommendations to share!)

From what I heard when I did a consultation on this clinic, they do not ask for extra fee when requesting a translator though you might need to go to a big clinic because some clinics doesn't provide translator
which clinic did you go to?? Do you know if the clinic's able to do online consults in english, they have a high chance of having a translator there?

My translator Ryan called himself my friend, not my translator. Also, he negotiated better than I could have negotiated for myself.

I would bring him even if there is a translator employed by the clinic because I was not just paying for him to translate for me but to advocate for me. He was on my side. The english translator at the clinic is on the clinic's side. I talk about the benefits of having my own translator in my review of Girin, which has an excellent and large team of translators on their side. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/double-eyelids-canthoplasty-epi-review-at-girin.1061815/

I’ve had consultations both with an in-house translator and with a freelance translator. My experience was the same as previously mentioned by another user, where clinics with their own translator actually quoted slightly higher prices than local clinics that required you bring your own translator.

This time in Seoul I went my friend for PS and we decided to hire Selena (kkt ID sjungh) from a recommendation I found here on purseforum and she was honestly a blessing in disguise for us. She’s very knowledgeable about all kinds of PS and made sure to convey our intentions very carefully to the doctors and consultants!! We had many changes of plans and she showed to be very flexible everytime. I think we ended up asking her to accompany us on 4 different days versus the one planned day.

She is very transparent and also very likeable. If you end up contacting her please let her know its through this purseforum comment

Usually clinics that have inhouse translators have a different price list for procedures. Since they have to cover the cost of the inhouse translators and more. Also the inhouse translators are most likely to persuade you or push you to get more done than you may have originally planned, even if the prices are reasonable. As far as I know they work off commissions so you can see where this comes from.
Regarding the many "friends" out there I see on this forum. You need to understand that nobody will work for you for free. If they are not charging you, they have a back deal with the clinic. The price point will be about 2~3 times higher if you bring that "friend".
Best thing to do would be to go to the clinic that has a inhouse interpreter and haggle best you can, or hire a local freelance interpreter or a interpretation agency that charges you up front.
If you are afraid of negotiating on your own, or if you want help with airport pickup, hotel bookings, post-op care , etc. You can go with the "Friend" which is most likely a unlicensed agency, or a interpretation agency that charges you up front and make them sign a waiver that they don't have a deal with the clinic that you are going to for a rebate. (If the company is a properly operating place, they should already have this and offer this too you even before you ask for it.)
