Still no handbag and leave out of the country in days. I am thinking of just getting a purse my daughter likes now and buying one over there that I like. She likes the 'henry lane - emmy' satchel but I am wondering a couple things....

How does it look without all the stuffing?
Do the colors hold up?
Is it a nice crossbody?

Thank you for your help! Would love any modeling pics if anyone has any. With it being a final sale and now the local store may have one I am debating getting it vs driving an hour one way just to check it out as I would have to order anyways as the store still has it marked higher.

Hi! I know it's been a couple days, but I bought the Henry Lane Emmy in Ablaze (the orange one). I saw it in the Kate Spade store at first and fell in love, then I found that it was much cheaper online! I think it's $180-something online plus tax, but at the store, it was $260 something! That's with it on sale in the store already.

I think this is a great travel bag if that's what you're looking for! It's very, very roomy! I placed a standard size pen and an iPhone 5 in there for reference.

To answer your questions:
-Yes, it holds its shape without stuffing. It's a soft leather, but it's structure well.
-Not sure what you mean by colors holding up..? :thinkin: I do think the orange online has more red tint, but this definitely still pops because well, it's ORANGE. haha! The color is even throughout.
-It's a bit big as a crossbody. It's shaped much like a doctor's bag, so it's... thick. I think it looks best as a shoulder bag... If you're worried about weight, it's pretty light as a bag, so it'll depend on how much you stuff it.

One thing I'll say though... IS THAT IT REEKS. The inside smells so much like plastic and chemicals!!! I've been trying to air it out to no avail. :nogood:

Pretty!!!!

I had a stinky Coach Isabelle once. I had to let it sit completely unwrapped in an empty room for a week with a dryer sheet inside the bag. Then the smell was gone. Get rid of the wrappings/stuffing too because they hold onto the smells. Good luck!

Charcoal is the best thing to get rid of odors. The cheapest way is to get some charcoal pills and carefully empty them into a paper cup, then put the cup inside your bag. Charcoal will stain so make sure to put your bag somewhere high so you won't accidentally knock it over and spill the charcoal. There are also products with charcoal in containers like Moso Bags which are safer if you're clumsy or have pets/kids who might knock your bag over.

Loosely crumpled newspaper also gets rid of smells really well but I wouldn't recommend that in this case since the lining is a light color.

Thanks! I ended up putting an open Ziploc bag of baking soda then a really small bottle of perfume for 2 days, then I had to fly to Orlando and ended up using it. It still smells and made my stuff smell inside, but it's definitely not as overpowering as before. I'll try the charcoal pills for sure!

If the OP is still looking for a bag and isn't tied to Kate Spade, I would recommend the Longchamps Le Pliage Neo in Medium for an alternative for traveling. They look to have the same size, and Longchamps are always great for travel. With KS's final sale on the Henry Lane Emmy though, KS may be a better buy, but I hope you don't end up with a smelly bag, too!

Oh you've tried the baking soda too! I can't believe Kate Spade hasn't addressed this issue. I've found so many forums regarding this. So annoying. It's putting me off KS bags...

I haven't experienced this with other bags grrrrr
