does anyone else feel this way?

i'm a teacher who's working remote this year. in some ways, it's great, but in others, not so much...i'm not buying new clothes, makeup or getting my hair done (don't ask...)..so, i've bought some bags that i've been lusting after...the thing is, i don't have anywhere to wear them...they're sitting in my closet and not being used....because of risk factors, we've only socially distanced with friends a few times, outside with masks (don't need a bag then) and we go for long drives on the weekend for a change of scenery...i'm so ready for all of this to be over and some days it feel like it never will be...so, for those of you who aren't going out that much, what are you doing with the bags you love? thanks....

Sending hugs because I can relate to this! My family is taking the pandemic very seriously, my son is doing school virtually from home, and we really limit the people we see and places we go. I’ve been using my bags just to do simple stuff, like walks around a duck pond.... it brings me joy to use them, despite the far fewer opportunities. Our right now isn’t our forever. Normal life will come back, eventually. Hang in there. You’re not alone!

Consider changing them even if you’re not going out. I enjoy seeing different bags hanging in my office/library even if I don’t go out that day.

I take my bags out, admire them, try different stylings, and clean them. When I stay home, I practice different makeup and hairstyles. I feel like I have no idea how to dress myself or do makeup anymore.

I have a wardrobe full of very nice suits, racks of beautiful ties, shelves of shirts, antique gold and silver cufflinks, Montblanc pens, Louis Vuitton briefcases, and I spend all day at home video conferencing in shorts.

But much more than the clothes and accessories, I miss the physical, tactile nature of working in an office environment. The little “in house” jokes, the after work drinks, the lunches, the office scandals, the thrill of presenting on the fly in front of people, even the train or drive to work.

And being at home all day with my wife is not going to end well. No idea how retired men handle it.

But it will get better. We will get through this hell within 18 months and be back to business as usual.

I miss not wearing my things as much, but I still change bags and always have my current bag out where I can admire it. I just bought a new bag, and normally I’d’ve been straight out the door with it (:happydance:) but as things are it’ll be a few days before we go anywhere (and that’s unlikely to be anywhere very interesting tbh). But things will improve. I’m a believer in the saying that “things are always darkest before the dawn” it’s often true in my experience.

Yes! I use my bags for a quick errand because it makes me so happy.

Yes to everything you said :/ I have been taking so many precautions and I’m also working remotely. I’m so much less productive this way. Zoom just tires me out and being on a computer all day gives me a headache

My fashion has shifted to basically completely practical, but it makes me sad because I realized for good or for bad, part of my identity was based on my fashion choices - especially earrings and purses.

Now, all my favorite earrings get in the way when I do wear a mask and go somewhere, I carry more practical bags, and I basically only wear sneakers outside now. I don’t like wearing earrings or makeup at home to give m body a rest. I’m trying to dress up when I have zoom meetings.

Arranging socially-distanced meetups also gives me stress. It’s hard to know whether you and loved ones are on the same page with mask use and distancing. And now so many of my friends are overburdened by extra tasks at home.

So all the things that used to bring me joy I either don’t do or now they also bring me stress. :/ Definitely a rough time and made more bleak thinking we could easily have another year of this  I think trying to schedule things you look forward to can help with this. Like a daily walk/explore your neighborhood, scheduled shopping trip or food delivery, or craft hour.

As for bags...now is a good time to keep leather moisturized and happy  and if you can afford tobuy cute accessories for your bags. And come up with a nice way to re-arrange your closet or bag storage if you need that. Since the pandemic I now value space so much more, and I might actually sell some bags I don’t really use.

I did notice better sales this year for fashion and it makes me think even the bigger companies (minus Amazon) are struggling. So now is a good time to get good deals if you are financially able to

Since I’m at home now I took this as the opportunity to reduce my environmental footprint so things I have been buying are new those of cleavers and lol...better for the planet toilet paper! A lot of these are smallish businesses so I’m happy to try supporting them.

Oh and lol - yes, I now cut my own hair. So far actually that part has been ok. I cut my hair way more now! I did not used to enjoy getting my hair cut, so for me this is a plus.

Something else I have been doing is finally trying all the free makeup/skincare samples I have accumulated. Now at least if our skin disagrees we can wear a mask to cover it with no explanation needed!

same here, I just visit hairdresser so that my students see me on Zoom cheerful and with short fun hair, not grown out and shapeless. The rest ? Nothing really. I walk my beagle 1.5 hour two times a day around dead neighborhood, so I do not need a mask. I wear the old ripped but warm jacket and sneakers and sweats, so that I finally wear out all my old clothes and have heart to throw them away once they are ripped at last. I recorded all my lectures in a professional studio at the university in spring when we closed for students, and now I have online classes.

What happened to me was strange. I started feeling overwhelmed with wealth I have in bags and trinkets - agendas, key pouches, numerous Hermes fine SLG items I have collected for years and YSL bags, Miu Mius etc etc.....boots I have never touched because I notoriously wear Doc Martens...so I listed for sale a LOT. The test was this one: if I list and someone asks for details and I freak out when I think it will sell, I withdraw it. if I am happy to answer questions and it sells and I am OK, it should go. So I reduced the clutter significantly.

My daughter needs to go next year for her grad studies to another city and remember how happy I was when my mom was visiting me and we had those crazy sprees and bought all those beautiful and often useless but dear trinkets...so I am collecting a fund for that, to do the same with my daughter. When I think of that feeling, the two of us in another city, buying her something for her place which she would never afford, and my husband would find it insane...I will have our fund. That made choices so easy for me. I started thinking of the far or maybe not far (we have no idea, do we ?) future, and how I will have this or that bag ...so large bulky ones lost, they will be for sale and will happily go to those who need large bags, I will keep Fendi baguettes in many sizes and colours I have, some unusual Bals (like pumpkin Sunday tote and purple work), some Bal clutches and cross-body hips, YL Muse II (I have 4 ???) and Downtowns, one orange Goyard tote and few small pieces. Some which are really worn I also started repairing in my spare time, SLGs re-dying to make them look newer and it makes me happy.

What I carry outside is nothing that can be ruined by hand sanitizer, and I read a lot how leather gets ruined easily...so I have a famous among men Belstaff Collonial canvas military bag and I placed patches I love on it....and my chucks in various colours or now already silver tall Docs and off I go with my mask if I have to go anywhere.

I have NO IDEA where and when I will wear anything else. All these beautiful bags will sit and wait, I look at them often and correct corners with a touch of leather cream.....and my heart hurts a bit. Not because of the objects, but what normalcy they represent for me.

So here is my current attire LOLbelstaff.jpegsilver.jpg

so same with me that is unbelievable...I use a bit older samples for eye creams now for elbows and hands, and am obsessed with finest creams for my skin now when I am at home and just put a bit of coloured Clinique chubby stick for lips and my family constantly call me "so cute" . I am happy if my students see me like that especially before the exams on Zoom meet. Funky hair, glasses and lip gloss and I am ready for Zoom.

Everything you mentioned is the same stress for me. Absolutely. I have panic attacks if I need to go somewhere to meet anyone, not because of the virus, but because of I have no idea what ?

I think you can intimidate others to stay away from you outside this way! But awesome, love these boots!

I have become more practical too like thinking long term before I buy anything. I basically had to bring my entire office home when switched to work from home and I feel like there is stuff everywhere now no matter how much I clean.

I actually donated a bunch of stuff I don’t need but I hate parting with items I spent a lot of money on even if they no longer suit my needs. And I don’t really have the time to sell stuff either for the profit I would get. Past attempts with Craigslist, Mercari, Poshmark were not successful.

I never realized how much I used to impulse buy and buy things because they were cheap or on sale. Thrift stores are really nice where I live so I used to shop those often when I felt I wanted to shop but not rack up a ton of $. So I’m trying to be more mindful of that cause although I already did my take on Marie Kondo for some categories, I want to do another round now!

Now is a good time to clean and repair what we already have. I's a great way of taking stock too.

If you\'ve just bought, put them out to admire. After all, bags are for ourselves, not just for others to admire.

Ugh, spent the day cleaning a leather jacket I gave to a friend and she had a red wine accident (which she denies) usually I would have given it to a leather specialist but our cobbler retired, the other leather cleaners in town, err, not THAT great and that would risk having the jacket totally ruined

Really sorry .

I think we've all friends like that - or should I say many ex-friends. Although, in my case sister :lecture:
