Okay, I know this is a Crazy question. Like, really crazy. But, I figure we are all Purse Crazy here so I’m going to ask it:

Does a nylon tote count as a “bag”?

I’m trying to put together a 6-bag collection. Since I only have 6 slots, I have to be very careful about which bags I keep. I have a big nylon tote that I use for bad weather days, air travel, and toting around toddler stuff. The brand is longchamp but I don’t think the brand matters in reference to my question.

I’m having a Huge Struggle as to whether I consider this nylon tote as one of my 6 bags? I don’t use it as a “purse” per se, but if I’ve got a ton of kids stuff I will throw my card holder in it so I don’t have to carry another small bag. I also don’t purposely “reach” for it as I do my other bags.

So.....should I include it in my count, or do I get another spot to fill?????

Important question I know. Lol.

Yeah I don't count my Longchamps as a bags since they are so interchangeable for anything: Carrying shopping purchases, gym bag, carry-all, etc. Rarely do I use it as a "purse-purse" like I do my Neverfull. Be it because of the price, or the material, or a combination of both (more than likely), I don't count it.

Which also means I can get more to increase my "purse count". Hee-hee. #BuyTheBag

Not a crazy question. :amuse:

For me, items count as handbags if I use it as a handbag. This means I don’t “count” laptop bags, beach bags, backpacks, luggage, etc.

It seems to me that you use this as a convenience / luggage piece. So I wouldn’t include it in my count.
I second this approach! I do count some of my totes as handbags (including a Longchamp and a leather Botkier tote that was just about the same price as the Longchamp LP after discounts), but that's only because I use them as handbags semi-regularly. If it's predominantly a functional piece for you, though, and not a handbag, I wouldn't count it as one!

I love Kipling! Have tons of them.
They are no proper bags for me (I can fold them away and put them on top of each other in a plastic container in my closet)
Love them in bad weather, on the beach, for night-shifts, when traveling, with kids, as mood bags

And then there are my precious leather bags, that need to be stored carefully,...

Great! Thank you all for your input. I think this means I get a 6th slot to fill then! Yay! I prefer to consider this nylon tote as “luggage” along with my rolling duffel. Sooooo......Fendi peekaboo here I come! Bwahahahahahah!

I agree with this. I would also add that for the bags that don’t count, I consider them family bags. Bags that my husband or daughter can carry, bags that I don’t put primarily my stuff in.

In a purse, my stuff goes in and I *may* carry stuff for my daughter or husband. In a non-purse, stuff that doesn’t belong exclusively to me goes in there, and I am fine with one of them looking through it. My purse however only has my hands rummaging through it.

Two ways this can go, like the others have said if you prefer to keep your handbag count with only what you deem used as "handbags" then sure leave it out(i own some nylon LC myself) but if you are truly dedicated to keeping a lower purse count? then yes they are handbags and are basically calling them something else to to reduce your numbers.
