First of all congrats to your beautiful bags!

I also am slightly obsessed with the Piano bag amongst some others. But I am not so sure whether these bags really translate into modern casual outfits. Or at least I am not sure how to do it. I am a casual dresser and really afraid that these designs will not work for me.

How are you going to wear your Fondsbelle?

As this thread is really for Docride's leather care, it would be appreciated it you would kindly do a search on vintage bags and other threads showing how people wear their Hermes items. Thanks!

For those special nights when my husband and I go out! I was going to use it while wearing some cute jeans, a black top, black boots, minimal makeup and match my lipstick to the bag.

Also, maybe some of my black work attire, to give me some color. I have to dress professionally and just find it is easier to wear black, add color with a Hermes scarf, some jewelry and now this bag❤️ The LA tote is working great for work, because I need easy access and it adds a nice color to my mostly black work ensemble

Oh I am sorry Mistikat! I am new and just wanted to know how to take care of the leathers. I have gotten partially through reading all these pages, but it seems leather care products changed from what was initially recommended. I will definitely check out the vintage bags thread

The forum can be a bit overwhelming for sure - there is a lot of information. Do have a look at the reference library and the vintage threads - lots of great stuff there!

HI Doc, have another question for you

I am contemplating in this vintage M stamp bag. Only flaw which I see is the crease on the closure strap
Seller has said this is due to storage... Quote on quote:
"When the sangles are left undone to hang loosely, the crease sits right at the edge of the guide. I believe the previous owner stored the bag with the clasp undone, causing the sangle to fold upwards at the guide, causing the crease."

I read somewhere in the forum that creases may be taken care of by H spa and they may "iron" it out?

Is this something that can be fixed... without seeing the bag in person I worry that this has set in since the bag is from 2009 and would not be able to be trained or fixed....

Thanks for your advice as always...

I am so happy to see this thread. I just impulse bought a croc piano bag from docride on Ebay. I am soooo excited now. I did a lot of research on croc kelly's but I think in the end the piano will be better for me. I can baby it more and only take it out to nice dinners. I still really like the grey shades of the Kelly bags. Maybe if I have the extra cash I will invest in one of those in the future.

Oooooo - I saw that gorgeous Piano bag! Congratulations!!

Hi Docride,
A quick question about comments I saw from you a few times about box calf leather. You said "buff it out" - what do you actually mean by that? I am using all the products you recommended like meltonian and also the heavy duty (black one) but I always use soft cloth and I can't actually get any scratches out not even minor ones I only "condition" the bag. Is there a different type of cloth I can use for "buffing"? I would appreciate some guidance here - thank you!

Hello Doc, not sure if you are away. Hope things are well with you!

Hi there
M stamp isn't considered vintage
The little bend on the strap is going to happen eventually with use its not something that I would consider a flaw nor one to try and fix
Most will carry their bag open and the strains hang
This is typical of that
But do stir it closed with the straps stretched flat and on the turn lock
All the best doc

Hello
This is not a job for a novice in my opinion
You don't know what those marks are
I would assume they are actual stains and they will need removed by a professional and then the colored finish would need redone
Which means large area if not the whole bag would need recolored to get a perfect match because spot color restoration never really works well if it's in the middle of a panel
Demarcation would be a issue
Good luck
Doc

Hi there
This answer is regarding box calf only
deep scratches are not going to buff away they can often be "buffed out" which means with some polish a brush and a buffing cloth they can be buffed out to blend back into the patina and then all the scratches just don't look so noticeable
If however hot scratches have color loss then some pigment would help blend them with the rest of the body of the bag
Pigment replacement in serious scratches is not for the novice and would be best handled by a professional
Posting a photo would help
All the best doc

Hey there
Looks pretty rough
I would not expect a completely restored bag as a possibility
If however you wanted a cool beat up type of vintage Kelly like the Olsen twins were wearing then this might fit the bill
I hope that helps ?
All the best doc
