I wash just about everything, salad, fish, chicken...hell even red meat. LOL

Think about the kinds of people that harvest them..they're probably not the most hygienic type.

^ BINGO!!!! Most of the time people get sick from produce it is from fecal contamination-- and I'm not talking about animal feces

^ From a food safety standpoint, that's the best thing you can do. My family owns a food-related business and we wash EVERYTHING too, even meat. Just don't wash it all together!

My moms' pretty anal about washing salad leaves ...she washes them in water with vinegar added.

I don't tend to buy the pre-packed/washed variety, but I do wash the loose salad stuff that I buy. I don't really worry to much about it, I say it's more out of habit than anything.
