Hello everyone,

I’ve spoken to a leather/fur shop that will send the bag to their experts. I’ve been told the handles have fabric parts(not sure if that’s the case tbh) and there’s nothing they can do, because it’s not leather.
My question is, is it too risky to get it dyed to black? (They said they can replace the fabric parts with leather)
Should I just stick to the original color? (You can see that in the inside) could they fail in repainting it to the original color?

I love this bag, it’s my most used bag ever, but don’t know much about the details.

Thanks in advance!

Can I be frank?

I think you’re better off buying the same bag in black. Then you’ll have either two bags, or you can sell the faded one (which imvho has a certain poignant charm…some colors fade nicer than others and this one looks sweet and antique, not jaded and dull).

Dyeing costs a lot, messes with the texture, and the cord on the handles wont take dye the same way.

Looking at the photos, I think it’s a GGH Work?

Quick and sloppy Google says GH Works in a variety of colors are for sale at $450 and up, for ones in very nice to excellent condition, depending on color and seller. That’s just the first ones that show up.

But it’s not a difficult style to purcahse, and not one that commands a big premium except for the rare colors (yay, because it’s my favorite)so you could have your pick of a replacement/ addition easily.

If you let us know of a color or hardware style you’d like I’m sure one could be crowdsourced for you in no time at all.

Leave it alone.
It’s beautiful.
Or, contact Rago brothers and ask their opinion.

What did you end up doing? I’ve dyed a bag before and it turned out great. There is a YouTube video of someone dyeing their balenciaga city bag step by step. I watched that before I dyed my bag

I have had one professionally dyed and the man did an exceptional job. I was easy, fuss free, dye does not rub off, and it cost me 200 CAD for a Big pompon. I currently have a clutch there getting the same treatment.
Of course, it was black (or anthracite) on black so it was more of a refresh of the same colour.

There is no *risk* in dyeing your bag black if the person knows what they are doing. However, the laces in the handle and the fabric in the zipper won't take the colour in the same way. So it will show. Unless you are willing to pay up to replace these as well.
Then you'll have to compare the total cost of that to the cost of simply buying a black bag off the resale market.

Or you could simply refresh the original colour of the bag. Or go for a nuance of it, wherein the zipper colour and the laces in the handles won't clash.

I would do both: refresh the original colour AND get a black one off resale... (Black bags rule the universe!)

Where did you go in Canada?

At Teintures Sauriol: https://teinturesauriol.com

He (Jean Sauriol) specialises in designer leather goods, from shoes to bags. And particularly the Balenciagas. I got the reference from Carinthia (IYKYK).
First time I went there, I was really surprised to see all those handbags hanging there drying, even Gucci sneakers etc. But it goes to show that a lot of people are in the known about repair, maintenance etc.

I am currently on the hunt for reference of professionals that can regild hardware on designer items.
