do you lock your luggage?

Sorry to revive a long ago thread, but I have a question about locking luggage. I know that in Canada, they are not allowed to search your luggage without permission (unless it is a security issue), but what about other countries? I am NOT flying though the States, but am going to London and Melbourne. Does anyone have any current info. on this? Are the TSA locks good for travel not going through the States? TIA

I use TSA approved padlock or just tie a piece of string or wire to loop around where the zippers meet. I do this so I don't worry about my things falling off just in case the zippers "unzips" during transport. I thought you can use TSA locks anywhere you travel.
