Do you feel like the For Target line cheapens your bags?

Since it was just announced that Botkier will be doing a Target line, and Gryson just recently did one what is everyone's opinions?

Do you feel like your previous purchases are cheapened?

Are you thankful that you can get the designs you like for a more affordable price?


I know I probably am not on the bandwagon when I say I was crushed when I saw that Botkier was doing a line for Target. I personally like when my handbags are SOMEWHAT exclusive and I know I will have paid possibly 10X more for my authentic Botkier than the Target bags that might look similar. I feel sometimes that the designers "sell out" a little bit and I (brutally, and possibly unfairly) never see their stuff the same.

Thoughts?

I don't have an issue with it- they're not the same designs, and nowhere near the quality of materials. It's just a great way for smaller designers to get more exposure.

nope! even from a fair distance, you can instantly tell which one is the target version. leather is very distinct and even with quality pleather, it's still noticeably different. i remember seeing the Loeffler Randall handbag line for Target and being like....WOW, this is DEFINITELY no where NEAR what the original line is like! it's cute and great but definitely not the same type of investment piece as the original.

I don't care. I have expensive bags and you can definitely tell the difference in quality. By touch and looks. I think it's kinda stupid to care what other people will think. I could care less because I know my gryson is quality when I open it and feel the suede interior and quality hardwear and I know I'll definitely be able to tell the diff between pleather leather. No comparison at ALL except by designer.

no, the only thing i feel is happy because now i also can buy cheaper bags in nice designs.

Doesn't matter to me. I buy the bags for the quality vs. the name, so at the end of the day, if my bag is a good quality bag i'm happy no matter how many other people have it.

I see where OP is coming from. However I am neutral on the subject because none of my fav designers has done it....

I have more expensive and less expensive bags and I love that Target is getting designer bags which I love to buy. Don't you have places that you would rather not take an expensive bag that a target bag will be great to use? Yeah target I have no problem because they are not imitating designer bags instead it is a less expensive version for the public.

The only issue I have is that if I buy a cheap bag at Target of Botkier, why would I go back buying the more expensive ones from the same brand later?

Yeah, kind of. I just recently bought three botkiers so when I first saw it posted here, I thought, great people will now think I have a target bag.....but in reality most people probably don't even notice.

Not at all!. I wear high end and low end designer bags. Sometimes
one just wants a bag to knock around without being concerned as to
what might happen to it. For these times a Target Bag is perfect!

I think the difference will be obviously as they won't be able to use the same materials. Fakes bother me way more....

I think designers use many different materials to make their bags. Some designers charge a fortune for totes that are clearly not the same quality as their leather bags but people buy them and they are not considered fake. I am glad that Target is using designers to introduce new bags available for the public. Don't worry about where people think you buy your bags. If you know anything about handbags you can identify real leather at a glance and so can others.

Right now, I'm more neutral to it but if one of my favorite designers did it, I'll admit, I probably wouldn't be real happy.
