Do you feel doing skin tightening has slowed down/prevented sagging of your face or has not made any difference?

I’m interested in having deep penetrating energy devices (ultherapy, thermage, etc.). I don’t need my face to look tight now (there’s a bit of sagging but I don’t mind it much), I want to do it mostly for preventing future sagging. But it's very expensive (in the US) and I'm not 100% sure about its anti-aging benefits.

Unlike Botox, I’m not aware of any scientific studies that have showed these skin tightening devices slow down aging. So I want to hear anecdotal evidence. Does anyone here, either in their own experience or someone they know, feel they’ve slowed down sagging because of their regular use of Ultherapy. Thermage, etc.? Or do you feel it's made no change to your aging process?

Most of the cosmetic surgeons I know don't do these procedures anymore, because they are at best minimally effective for most people (there are some folks for whom they do work well, but what I hear is too many disappointed clients).
You're right, I don't think they work well either. Usually, I look at the BA pics and they look the same lol I've heard more doctors are giving up on it.

I'm just wondering if its effect on slowing down aging is real though. Like it tightens the deeper layer of the skin and makes it harder to sag. There's this video where this doctor used Hihu on pork, and he says the treated part has a different texture.

I just wish there were more evidence :/

The best resource I've found for getting info about plastic surgery & cosmetic procedures is Dr. Amir Karam. His videos on YouTube are great at telling you what a product, procedure or surgery will and will not do.

His video on facelift techniques over the years does a good job of explaining the mechanics of facelifts.

Sorry for the late response! I like Dr Karam too. I've even considered going to him for consultation. He's one of those doctors that don't like Hihu. In his videos, he talks about how the effect of Hihu is small and temporary, but he doesn't talk about whether it's effective for preventing future sagging or not. That's what I want to know.. Thank you for your response! :)

I had full face Ulthera twice in my mid / late thirties to tighten. It’s a total waste of money in my opinion. I wasted a bunch of money and ended up going for a full face and neck lift with a top facelift doctor in CA (Dr Timothy Marten) a few years later. Wish I would’ve just saved my money on fillers and Ulthera and went directly to surgery.

He actually told me those devices can cause a lot of damage under the skin and make future surgical procedures much more difficult. He said it creates a ton of inflammation under the skin and scarring which makes dissection challenging for a facelift if you’ve had too many of those procedures. Thermage and Ulthera were the ones he was most against if any surgery is an option in the future.

The actual Ulthera “results” are tiny and mostly due to inflammation after the procedure. Given the insane cost, much better to save money for an actual facelift if you want to truly tighten skin.

In my thirties I thought no way would I ever do surgery. I hit forty and decided early maintenance with actual results was much better investment instead of the hefty cosmetic dermatology bills I was paying. Now I don’t pay for fillers, botox, or any tightening procedures. I just take care of skin with great routine and peels from time to time.

Interesting and helpful post! Thank you! :)

I saw results after Ulthera, rather visible. I am going to do this treatment as well. About surgery, fortunately my neighbour ( she worked as a plastic surgeon in London) dissuaded me from doing it and advised other treatments.
Many men, many minds.

To clarify, you're saying that you liked the result from ulthera so you're going to keep doing it, while you decided not to do the face lift surgery?

At a certain age nothing is going to do what surgery can. Peels, microneedling, sunscreen, good moisturizers, all of these will help give the glow, right....but IMHO the lasers, and even the mini fractional do not do enough long term. Short term gains that aren't worth the costs. I finally did a lower face and neck lift two years ago and with my maintenance botox and microneedling I think I still pass for late 30's....attitude goes a long way too, but, in the end: surgery trumps all.

Thank you for letting me know from your personal experience! It's what I was looking for in this thread. I haven't done any of the in-office procedures yet, but I can see that, at some point, nothing besides an evasive surgery becomes enough. Then you ight be better off not doing these in-office procedures and instead save up for a surgery.

I agree. Dr Karam has great videos on youtube. He seems like a very skilled and well educated surgeon. His work with facelifts looks amazing. If I lived in Cali Id go to him for sure but Im in Canada.

Hey there! I totally get where you're coming from. Those energy devices can be quite the investment, right? I haven't personally tried Ultherapy or Thermage, but I've heard a mix of opinions. Some gals say they've seen a bit of improvement in sagging over time, while others feel like it didn't do much. It's like a hit or miss kinda thing, you know? Maybe someone else here can share their real-life experience with those gadgets. Good luck on your quest for firmer skin!
