Do women dress to impress men OR women dress for other women?

Stylish women dress for women. Sure there are women who dress for men, butI bet they aren't that interested in fashion as women dressing for women are. I dress for me (and I guess I want to look better than other women. Competitive spirit! :D). If I want to dress up to please a man I'll just wear tight jeans, sexy underwear and a shirt with a bit of cleavage on display. That's really all it takes.

I think stylish women dress for themselves, but their clothes are ones that other women notice.

I sometimes dress for a particular man when I'm out on a date or if I'm going to a party. I will dress with the environment in mind, but I decide based on what I feel like wearing. What I mean is, in a conservative academic environment, I've been wearing very preppy clothes, but hyper-preppy for a bit of irony. I incorporate my surroundings into my own style. Basically I don't dress for men or for women, just for myself, tempered somewhat to what is "appropriate."

I agree with you here, stylish women mostly dress for themselves- they know what they are comfortable with and how to wear things in order to create an extension of their personality, as such. You can always differentiate between those women who have class and those who don't. Most women aren't stylish, they are fashionable, and I think they are more concerned with what other women think. If you think about it, the stylish women don't have to follow the trends that most other women do. Most women will wear an item not just because they think it looks good, but because it is the fashion.

Last night BF and I went out to a southwest restaurant for dinner and cocktails. It's still a little chilly here, so I wore a black cashmere v-neck sweater, cool necklace, Joe's Jeans, high heeled boots and a black snug fitting leather jacket. Oh, and my black LV MC pochette. Anyway, it was a casual but pulled together look but definitely not made for night clubs. BF said a whole table of younger girls were checking me out as we left. I honestly didn't notice. Who knows why...because of my purse, my outfit, my late 30-something looks? Because I'm not size 0, ha ha? I really don't care one way or another because I felt very comfortable and stylish.

I dress for myself and for my competition.

Its so good to see my competitors double stare at my wonderful ensemble. They say I am effortlessly fashionable...but sometimes..I am too lazy to dress up though.

Honestly, I would say that I dress for myself too. Since I absolutely loveeee shopping. But the thing is, women DO check out other women. And I'm not saying that men do not know designer clothing, because some men actually DO KNOW alot more than women, but it's the women that will notice it more since they are the ones who are also shopping for practically the same kind of style, etc. That's why I started this topic ... I was just curious to what everyone had to say.

One day, I overheard some group of girls stating that men do not care what designer brands you wear. "If you look good, you look good." And I do believe in that concept. On the other hand, I think that women are more meticulous and would perfect every detail from head to toe.

When I dress to impress it's for other women. But most days I drag myself out of bed and put on whatever I can find so that I won't have to walk around naked, so technically this would be dressing for everyone and their eyes. LOL anyways, my boyfriend told me that more girls check me out than they do him. I have to say that I am not really into fashion and being trendy, it's too exhausting, and I'm not really any good at it.
